Now that the Health Care Bill is about to pass in the US I'm concerned about the death panels. Are any of our regulars here likely to be called before the panel? If you are please let us know so we can give you a good send off. |

Not yet, Padraig, but that's been the single most important feature from the very beginning. I've been jotting down names of prospects since this time last year. |

A friend of mine has a conservative co-worker who exclaimed this morning, "We've lost all our freedoms." Sadly, this person is apparently not old enough to qualify for the death panels. |

Republicans waking up and smelling the coffee? I love the line about it being an "abject and irreversible defeat". http://www.frumforum.com/waterloo |

It seems the main thing that got death-paneled in this debate was the Republicans staunch determination to do nothing at all. They don't seem to have an idea in their heads for making things better for people that doesn't involve cutting taxes for the people who need it least. That's not governing, it's capitulating. The dustbin of history just got a lot more full with the signing of this legislation. |

With the GOP victory of Scott Brown in January to fill Ted Kennedy's old senate seat, the health insurance companies thought health care reform was dead and it was a great time to let loose with another round of outrageous rate hikes. Lead by the subsequent 39% rate hike from Anthem Blue Cross in California, it gave Obama a great pivot point. |
