A little shilling this Sunday morning, if y'all don't mind. My tiny (almost non-existent) record label, Lost in America Music, just put out a John Prine tribute CD, "The Postman Delivers." It's 17 tracks, all performed by local (and relatively obscure) Chicago musicians. A friend of mine who owns a recording studio conceived and managed the project, so I'm not tooting my own horn when I say I'm really pleased with the final result. If anyone's interested, you can sample tracks on iTunes or on the Lost in America Music Facebook page. Anyhow, my friend and I are gonna be interviewed about the project tonight at 7:30 p.m. central time on WXRT, a Chicago rock station. If you're around a computer at that time and want to hear my nasal tones, you can stream it live at www.wxrt.com. They may offer it up as a podcast after that. As fate would have it, Prine's label is putting out its own comp this summer with much bigger names. Sigh. That's what you get for taking four years to complete a project. In any event, I know there are some Prine fans around these parts so I thought I'd give you a heads up. |

Rob, I saw your message, I was at home at the appointed time and I intended to listen. But I was in another room listening to R.E.M.'s Chronic Town 12" and other joys and forgot to listen to you. I'm embarrassed. I really meant to hear it. Sorry. I hope it went well. |

No worries at all, Padraig! It did go well, thanks. The host really knew - and liked - the CD so he asked great questions and played a good assortment of cuts. Apparently it made an impression on some people 'cause we sold out of our stock at CD Baby. I'll be curious to see how the iTunes sales are. Anyhow, it was a fun experience. I'll let you know if they ever wind up podcasting it. |
