..sadly missed, fondly remembered..inspired my first green suit..and then the hair...we all benefitted from the changes he brought with the punk/new romantic movement, it brought closure to that ballad laden west coast sound at the time..both sides of the 'A' with NY Dolls and the Pistols...it was opened and away we went..

Charles, I want to see a photo of you in that suit!

Spence, that can be the title to the anthology of his releases.

McLaren almost seems to be like the next era's Andrew Oldham though he was born only two years after Oldham. They both had their own visions which each pushed forward the romance and the flim flam of pop and they both knew how to steal judiciously. Oldham turned a group of very middle class young men into characters from "A Clockwork Orange" and McLaren turned a handful of aimless street scenesters into cartoon punk musicians who created what still is--for me--the single best punk album ever made.

Sad news indeed Jonathan. High praise for the Pistols from Randy and Charles is certainly well deserved.

Randy,
Please give us your top 10 punk albums list!

In my opinion, McLaren's high point was shaping Bow Wow Wow, whose album "See Jungle!..." is a masterpiece from start to finish. McLaren may have done a lot to shape the image and write the lyrics for "rock n' roll puppet" Annabella Lwin to sing, but musically, that band was limitlessly creative and unique at that point. I still love this record.
