Jeff,
interesting nerd fact about 'Madman's Honey' the line 'master cut the stone out, my name is Lubbert Das' is from a Hieronymous Bosch painting 'The extraction of the stone of madness', Lubbert Das is a generic peasant's name and he is asking for the 'stone' of madness to be cut out. I am either proud or ashamed to say depending on whether my wife is present that I spotted the reference when I got The Ideal Copy album on it's release.

Cosmo, that is an impressive bit of info. I admit that I've never really known what the hell that song is about.

Bangles - Dover Beach.

And I found a lovely, live performance of my favorite Bangles song (which is Dover Beach) from May of 1983 (with their orginal bass player Annette Zilinskas and a year before All Over The Place was released):

Perry Keyes - In The Backyard. Love the "crying boy" chorus.

Geoff, yes, The Byrds' version is indeed a wondrous thing too. It's on Sweetheart Of The Rodeo, as I'm sure you know and already have.

Built in a Day - Blue Aeroplanes

Spence, I noticed recently in the liner notes to that Winston Tong album that bass duties were handle by Jah Wobble, which means he was responsible for the super cool bass line on "Theoretical China." That bass part really drives the song.

Nice one Jeff!

Yes, Mr Wobble is indeed the bassmeister on that wonderful (most unlikliest of) pop albums, also Mr Rankine at the helm, Stephen Morris, Dave Formula and Simoin Toping I think, all, also involved. I remember buying it from Virgin in London the tale end of 1985, the cover and presentation was to die for, the music was the same.

My favourite Lloyd Cole song, that one. Great pop.

Meanwhile, deep in the blues at being thwarted from a trip home to Scotland by a damn volcano:

Fiorella Mannoia- I Dubbi dell'Amore

Classy weep-into-your-wine ballad from one of Italy's foremost modern interpreters, combining a beautiful husky voice, great hair and a sumptuous clarinet...
