Grrrr.

The "Best of" includes only one song from the non-album singles and it's one of the weakest ones ("Reverie"). Surely "Spanish Blue" or "Bad Timing" or "Being Driven" or "Left to Rot" are all VASTLY better than the inconsequential "Reverie." These are the songs that are hard for people to get.

If the box set has only eight CDs, then they might be nothing other than the discs that have already been released, including the bonus discs, and therefore no thrill for those of us who have already bought them. On my Triffids shelf the CD I made up of the downloads for "Early Singles" is a ninth disc. If that disc is not included in the box and there are also none of the pre-"Treeless Plain" cassette recordings I'd have to say it's a pointless exercise with a capital "P."

Ok, NOW I'm excited! I didn't find Graham's description on the Domino site. Thanks Sean!

And now I've ordered a copy of the box. I should have had more faith in Domino.

The free download of the album came from Domino today, pretty early and almost 2 months ahead of the physical release!!

Its a well paced comp, and sounds great from start to finish, I was even surprised that I didnt recoil in horror when "bury me deep in love" came on. I'm sure I remember it as much cheesier than that!!
the only song i wasnt overly familiar with, although i did recognise, was track 3 reverie, its from their debut 7" ep.

Not only that Kevin, but your beloved Hot Chip included Hall & Oates' I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) on their great Bugged Out mix album!

Mine arrived today while I was at home for lunch Padraig! I've decided to start with "Grandson of Dungeon Tape." This is NOT going to be a disappointment. The sound is great. The chord progression on the original version of "Too Hot to Move, Too Hot to Think" is interestingly different than the one they did all those years later. I'm hearing "MGM" right now. But I'm going to have to stop and get back to work.

I played a track or two from each disc just to ensure they were were all playing OK. One tack I played was that version of Too Hot to Move!

The box set is going for $90 Australian in Red Eye records in Sydney. This is $35 less than it cost me to have it sent from London. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Thanks for the up on the triffids box set Padraig, I've just bought it over the phone. It should be here in a couple of days.

A mate of mine also got his from Domino and it arrived late last week. He took 2 days off work to listen to it!! A dedicated Triffids fan!!!

I played The Triffids' live album Stockholm last night (side 1) and this morning (side 2). It's the first time in about 17 years that I've played it and it's brilliant. I really disliked it back in the day (I bought it in 1992) and I just can't see why now, it's fantastic. I came across the cassette while I was looking for something else.

My copy arrived today. I've only had time to listen to two discs (the best-of and the LSE gig) so far, and its already great. Very classy packaging on the set too. My only problem selection-wise with the compilation-disc is that it needed more In The Pines tunes. Everybody needs more of those. ;)

By the way, the liner notes also add a bit more detail on the 'Jack Brabham 2010' tracks than the entries on the net give. To quote:
