I've noticed a bit of chattering going on about the new Oz tourism campaign. It's universally been found lacking. Geez, it seems as easy as can be to me: Just buy the rights to "Wide Open Road," mute out McComb's off-topic lyrics about chasing down the runaway lover, play the lines "It's a Wide Open Road, it's a wide open road, and you can go anywhere that you want to go," be sure to include Jill Birt's little keyboard hook with its vaguely Aussie-sounding theme and back it all up with shots of Uluru, the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Harbor and maybe Tasmania. There will be no cringing by the locals and we auslanders will queue up for our plane tickets. Problem solved. To Tourism Australia: Please deposit my modest consulting fee in an Aussie bank, so I have funds at the ready for my next three visits. Thank you. |

Well said Randy! That's brightened up my Sunday morning! (As has the sun putting in an appearance after a three week absence). |

Nice!... Though it would be amusing trying to fit some of the off-topic lyrics to that song to 'tourism' imagery. Maybe they could show comically frustrated tourists to the line 'I yelled my insides out at the sun/At the wide open road'. |
