"The last 5 albums you have bought" thread has turned into a "have a go at Sting, Phil Collins" thread. which begs the question, who really gets on your goat? easy for me. James Blunt |

Jam bands. Rod Stewart. Metal bands. Gangsta rappers. Too many others to name. I guess I'm lucky--I've never heard James Blunt. In fact, I'd never even heard of him until people started bashing him here. |

Oh, and maybe you're mostly spared this guy in the rest of the world: Toby Keith. Worst...country...music...superstar...ever. Sums up everything that's embarrassing, wrong, and pigheaded about this country. |

This could be a controversial choice: Nanci Griffith, which sort of flies in the face of my typical musical values...it's just her voice -she sounds, to me, like chipmunks being strangled... And I second Kurt's Toby Keith nomination...not just him but that whole "hat act" segment of what passes for country music these days. Rascal Flatts is another reprehensible, vile offender...And don't get me wrong I love a lot of classic country artists, your Willie, your Johnny Cash, and they comprise a lot of what I buy these days... And finally, I have to mention the genre called "emo"...I have tuned it out to such a degree I can't even tell you the band names, but there's shitloads of it played out here in So Cal and it is probably the most heinous, the most hated, on my list! |

The three horsemen of the FM radio apocalypse.....Elton John, Phil Collins and Billy Joel. Try listening to a commercial station without hearing them at least once! Better still, try changing stations and see how many are playing their songs (STILL!!!!!!!), often in a row and often the SAME SONG!! Absolutely maddening!!! My other dislikes are well known to you all so I won't put petrol on the fire ;) |

Ok I'm going to stick my neck out here...if I get shot down in flames then so be it :-) 1. Oasis 2. Echo & The Bunnymen 3. The Libertines 4. Placebo 5. The majority of acts who appeared on The X-Factor show and will doubtless all be in the UK Top 10 by default. |

Matt, I love The Bunnymen & The Libertines, but I won't bite. It's noticeable that 2 of the X-Factor whatever it was called offshoot, "artists" Journey South & the singing dustman, have CD's released the week before Mother's day. Happy accident or international conspiracy? Robbie Williams is my present pet hate, has been for 10 years now. That anti-talent has overshadowed previous unfavourites (Joel/Collins/Sting/Knopfler/Pink Floyd). James Blunt is irritatng no doubt, but I haven't been exposed to his vacuous attributes enough to build up any steam on him. |

For me, its about the amount of people associated with the music industry that don't have a clue, majority of radio presenters, save for Andrew Colins, Stuart Maconie and of course John Peel, press and promotion dolly's. I detest these more than most of the artists people would mention within this list, crirtics too, most of the reviews on the press are way out, and a lot of the time its NOT subjective! Pah! |

For consistency over the decades, 80s, 90s and 00s it's U2 for me, their bombastic, derivative sound and the lead singer with an ego inversely proportional to his height. |

Jerry, I really wanted to like Echo & The Bunnymen. After wrongly thinking they were a dance act when I was about 11 or 12, I finally realised I had them confused with another act! I saw them live at Reading '96 when they had 'Nothing Lasts Forever' out. I really loved that song but thought they were poor live. No offence, but Has McCulloch had a charisma bypass? The X Factor acts are cynically marketed thats for sure. I say that as an ex member of Journey South. |

Like most bands save for a few, The Bunnymen haven't really delvered since 1987. Really they should split up, their best were by far the first 4 albums, beyond that, save for Bedbugs and Ballyhoo they lost it. |

just read an article by the singer from this naff British band called The Kooks, and he was slagging off James Blunt. This is a guy who went to one to one of these posh music schools called the Brits school, where he met and fell in love with the talentless Katie Melua. So, he's slagging of Blunt and the likes for being soulless and not really caring about music. Has he heard his own drivel? Christ, this is akin to Hitler accusing Mussolini of being a bit of a fascist! |

Can't disagree with U2 - horrible noise. Shoot me down in flames, but I loathe Van Morrison, the no-talent baldie. I like Echo & the Bunnymen, but I know someone who once won a competition, the prize being a chance to meet Ian McCulloch. She said he was the most odious person she's ever met. |

You guys nailed it on the modern country sound. Toby Keith is terrible, as is Brad Paisly, Kenny Chesney, etc. I never like Elton John, Rod Stewart hasn't put out anything decent in 30 years and his Songbooks are pure shite. I can't stand any rap, with the exception of a few early Run-DMC songs. I am a huge Echo fan, mostly the stuff from 1980-84 though. |

And what IS up with James Blunt? I thought maybe there was some kind of culture gap...something we Yanks are incapable of getting... He sounds like David Gray, if DG had his balls in a vise and didn't have decent songs... |

James Blunt will soon enter the lexicon of cockney rhyming slang - that will be his contribution to popular culture. Hardin, David Gray and decent songs dont belong in the same sentence |

Probably agree, Kev...just trying to be diplomatic and not offend more than one group of fans per post...I'm no expert and don't care much, but DG isn't as vile as Blunt, is he? At least he doesn't posture around like he's God's gift to women...they both are from that "I'm so sensitive" school of songwriting though, aren't they? |

This is too much fun and too easy - it really is like shooting fish in a barrel, but I forgot to mention: 1) Nickelback 2) Scott Stapp (of the departed, not missed Creed) 3) Kid Rock 4) Korn 5) Guns N Roses, anything having to do w/ Axl Rose 6) Not the group, necessarily, but the song "My Humps" by Black Eyed Peas, has to be the most annoying, asinine thing I've heard, probably ever. 7) Chicago - Peter Cetera is a dog from hell 8) Barry Manilow - sorry, that one's too easy, but he's all over the charts here. 9) Bon F-ing Jovi. |

Any RnB and Garage, the modern day stuff obviously. Its all bollocks, that stuff and all the bling that goes with it repulses me, not to mention the way it treats the female species in such an unappreciative way. |

Ok, I'm going to stick up for David Gray to an extent. IMO, the first album "A Century Ends" is a total classic. The next two albums are 50% classics. Then he started doing pleasant pabulum and, of course, became popular here in the U.S. Spence, what is modern day garage? I'm only familiar with the old 60s stuff from the U.S. (and I'd argue also Oz). Much of which, of course, is fabulous. A big thumb-up to Jeff on the White Stripes. I really resent it when somebody is heavily hyped as the big new thing and all they do is recycle from the past. And from a past I don't like, to boot. I'm amused at how many of the folks named on here I've never even heard. While I miss out on Nick Harcourt's show, there's a lot to be said for never switching on a radio. |

Aw dang, I forgot to mention Sarah McLachlan...an aural estrogen overdose... James, a college drinking buddy, who happened to be very opinionated but funny, would come up with amusing names for bands he hated. His tag for the Eurythmics was the "No-rythmics"...Soft Cell, who should be mentioned on this thread, were "Soft Stool", and so on... |

Pro is right up there I grant you but he has nothing on Crowe - whose recent appearance on radio where I heard him (seriously) refer to his band's song writing skills, in the same sentence, to those of The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, was truly memorable. |
