I love the raving about MES and Howard Devoto and bringing in Cathal Coughlan is quite a welcome surprise. It's a weirdly Anglocentric view though, tracing the development of pop music's poetic pretensions to the Beatles instead of to Dylan who, I'm sure, is who Lennon would identify as his big inspiration.
