I've been bummed out since I heard on Monday morning. We saw him just a few weeks ago at the Sidewalk Cafe and would have gone to one or more of his final shows had I not been away on business. He was a very gracious human being.

The initial rumor was an O/D, but from what I've heard from people who knew him and were with him on that final night, it sounds like his body just gave out after decades of "living life to the fullest."

Sad news. Don't know much about his later career, but Swell Maps were great. A mate of mine was big friends with him, but hadn't heard about this from him. Didn't one of the other Swells die a few years back?

Nikki's brother, Epic Soundtracks died in 1997.

From what I've gleaned in the last few days Nikki died of heart attack after returning to the apartment he was staying in early Sunday morning. He didn't have a key and they let him in at 6:00 AM. When they got up at noon they discovered he'd collapsed in the kitchen. He lived on the edge and I believe his death was a cummulative thing, not the result of anything that happened on Saturday night.

Nikki and Epic's parents are both still alive... losing both of your children is a horrifying thing. Nikki had a great relationship with his parents and said they were always supportive and very proud of their sons' accomplishments.

I never met Epic, but Nikki was a very gracious man and made the people he was with feel special with his company. And it wasn't a put on, it was genuine and sincere. May he rest in peace.

There was an obituary in the UK daily newspaper The Independent on 30 March.

I had the pleasure of seeing a gig with Lindy backing Nikki. (Glasgow Rooftops - 88 or so)which I remember really enjoying. My main memory of the gig was that some heckling was thoroughly shout down by Lindy and quite a bit of banter resulted.
RIP
