“If I were the officer he verbally assaulted like a banana-eating jungle monkey I would have sprayed him with OC [pepper spray].” Police Officer Justin Barrett. But he claimed it wasn't racist... |

Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, after playing 'Jesus etc.' in Dublin last week, "that song was influenced by Jesus who of course lives in Dublin, or as you call him Bono". |

Republican US Congresswoman from Minnesota Michele Bachmann (not related to her, thank God, as her husbands family uses the double n version of Bachman): Bachmann told a cheering audience on Monday that to stop health care reform, “What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn’t pass.” |

She can slit her wrists. I'm OK with that. |

And when she does, her fancy Congressional health insurance plan will fix her right up at no charge. |

Padraig, the quote is from Brigid Brophy, someone I'd not heard of before, but looking her up online she sounds like a quite interesting person. The quote was included in the booklet of Nellie McKay's excellent new CD. |

Thanks Allen, it's a great quote. I like the quote from an online biography that, though raised in England, she "was raised on Irish ideas". |

Steve Martin: "Bored? Here's a great way for the over-50 set to kill a good half an hour: 1. Place your house keys in your right hand. 2. With your left hand, call up a friend and arrange the details of a lunch date. 3. Hang up the phone. 4. Now, try to find your keys." |

And on a slightly more serious note. With a looming financial melt-down predicted every day at the moment, personally I am fed up with hearing about 'the market' as if it is some nebulous all-seeing, all-hearing entity whose origins have got nothing to do with people. It's just pure greed for a select few. This quote from Dan Roberts of the Guardian hits the nail right on the head "The market is not a force of nature or a tyrannical beast, but a human contruct we all need to take back under control" |

Kinda opposite side of that coin Andrew is Dylan's lines from "Sweetheart Like You" "Steal a little and they throw you in jail, Steal a lot and they make you a king". |
