and just to confound everybody the download has been released today, which is one day earlier than promised.

on first listen this is gonna piss a lot of people off because it sounds less even less of a "rock" album than kid a did.
first impressions are an album of little or no guitars, glitchy beats, and thom yorkes vocal very prominent in the mix. i'll need to listen to this at least 3 or 4 times more before getting any kind of handle on it. so far it sounds like a tom yorke solo record - not a bad thing!
one of the early reviews contains this telling snippet "If Radiohead are still a rock band, then no one has told them."

another early review - http://thequietus.com/articles/05721-rad iohead-king-of-limbs-review.

another encouraging line to savour

"King of Limbs is Radiohead moving further into leftfield, away from the mainstream they once courted, a mainstream that will no doubt damn this album as pretentious and self-indulgent, with all the confused venom of a lover spurned"

second listen now. i'm not much more enlightened than i was after the first, this will take many more listens to reveal itself. perhaps picking up that the drummer is on top form here, pretty jazzy at times. i reckon the last flying lotus album was on heavy rotation while making this album.
favourite track so far is "feral" which is the most kid a-ish track but not a slavish imitation.

On first listen I like it, but not so much I'm going to pay £33 for the "Newspaper Album" edition.
