Was looking at this article about an iPod Julia Gillard donated to Barack Obama, and noticed that Streets Of Your Town is on the playlist. Could be better (though I suppose having Part Company or Draining The Pool For You would give the wrong impression...), but not bad: http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/musi c/gillard-gives-obama-ipod-with-aussie-m usic-20110309-1bnc6.html |

Sigh. Politicians and their music. I wouldn't have given him a bunch of that Jimmy Barnes dreck. Do not give an American a bunch bad covers of American R & B numbers. Especially an American from Chicago. Talk about reviving the old shibboleth that the Aussies have nothing original to offer to music. The old community organizer Obama would have probably really truly appreciated Kev Carmody in a big way. And I'm sure he would have appreciated Jimmy Little's "The Messenger." Saltwater Band and Geoffrey Gurramul are good. Re the GoBees, I'd have included something newer and probably a song from "The Evangelist." Aren't Crowded House Kiwi? Well, she tried. |

WAY too much Jimmy Barnes!!!!!!!!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! There is A Panics though. No Cattle and Cane???? Come ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Easybeats??? No Triffids....I'm sure a well travelled man like Obama could well appreciate Wide Open Road. Tame Impala hmmmmmm...what have you been smoking Julia??????!!!!!!!! I'd say her younger aids added that one as well as the Panics. Too much Bernard Fanning (from Powderfinger) - it's not bad but just WAY too much. NO CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!! Where's "Under the Milky Way". Crowdies Greatest Hits - they were 2/3 Aussie, 1/3 Kiwi Randy, at least in their original incarnation. Enough good stuff to keep me on her side of the fence. I'd shudder to think what Tony Abbott (Opposition leader - "Liberal"[Aussie right wing])would have on his.....certainly no Midnight Oil! |

Just listened to her speech to congress and almost puked. Absolute drivel. Almost evryone at work today, and on talkback, are laughing with derision at PM. Never have i heard a more fawning, pathetic grovelling attempt to be liked. Her ratings in the polls are 5 points lower than when she backstabbed our former PM. She will be lucky to survive the next 12 months. And her selection of songs was shite! |

Well, they lapped it up like cats with fresh milk here. So maybe she did what she needed to do. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washingt on/2011/03/julia-gillard-australia-prime -minister-speech-to-u-s-congress-.html |

Jimmy Barnes 'music' could have been handy at Guantanomo Bay - although it probably fits into the category of cruel and unusual punishment. Would make water boarding a relief I guess. |

I know little and care less about Australian politics. I only know about half these acts. Savage Garden & INXS? No Triffids, no Church, not even Frente or Even as We Speak. Can't stand Temper Trap either. Partly their stupid name. Give me Rolf's Two Little Boys any day. |

How are the Cheaney, Rumsfeld and Bush war criminals doing these days anyhow? Still plenty of conflict in the world so I guess their shares must still be worth something. |
