The remaining Louvin brother has gone to that Grand Old Opry in the sky, aged 83.

I have 'Tragic Songs Of Life' which is a classic LP, and had the good fortune to actually see Charlie live in the 1980s.

I had written this in a previous thread (about great gigs)

"On the subject of grand old men of the country world, I saw the Louvin Brothers (before the Everlys, but far far more miserable for those who don't know) play the Navaar House hotel in Penicuik, just outside Edinburgh. Can't remember which year exactly, but the Proclaimers were there too and they had just become famous. A bizarre, but very enjoyable evening surrounded by very serious C and W fans with rare Johnny Cash albums under their arms. Rather unfortunately one of the brothers had died 20 years before, but had been replaced by one of the Whitstein brothers. It was a pretty intense and authentic performance. And made me realise that liking C and W comes to all of us eventually"

I once almost boxed someone who laughed at the Satan Is Real cover as if the Louvin Brothers were just dumb hicks.

Rest In Peace Charlie.

I never was aware of the Louvin Brothers until 1975 when I bought Grievous Angel and then later the year when I bought Pieces Of The Sky, Elite Hotel and Sweetheart Of The Rodeo. I guess I kind of shocked my Allman Brothers Band, Lynryd Skynyrd, Who and Bob Seger buddies when I started playing those Gram and Emmylou albums and that stange Byrds country one as well.
