July release apparently - with a second disc of demos for good measure. A vinyl reissue is also on the cards. |

the beginning of the end.. i'll probably buy this one, it's apparently got one of these cool flip tops that the reissue of fables had, but i'm buying no more after this one. its a great album by most other groups standards, but not really a patch on their own first 3 albums. |

Kev, I'll agree with you on "the beginning of the end..but not really a patch on their own first 3 albums." It was their first album I didn't play more then a couple times a week upon buying it. I only have my original 1986 CD, so I'll probably get the 25th AV double disc for the improved sound and outakes. |

I'm not as harsh on them as some of you, but will get this, quite liked it at the time. |

Frank, REM was still my favorite band in 1986. The first four songs on LRP are very strong and they still hold up for me 25 years later, but after those four some of the subsequent songs sounded like they were mailed in. Maybe the remastering on the 25th Anniversary Edition will change my opinion somewhat. |

I remember getting this and being excited, I was working as a gardner and had it on tape pretty constantly, I always liked Coyahoga. |

Frank, I used to travel to Cleveland once or twice a year on buisness from 1985-92. Stipe doesn't pronounce/sing Cuyahoga correctly. Native Clevelanders pronounce the river which meanders through their city (and dumps into Lake Erie) as Kai-a-hog-a. It's still a great song though. The Cuyahoga famously caught fire back in 1969 due to massive pollution problems caused by the many factories and sewage plants located on it's shores. |

Randy Newman wrote a pretty great song about that fire. |

Burning River Pale Ale, a decent brew (that I've had on numerous occasions) is also named after the fire. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/73/ 225 http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/beer/an -exceptional-family-of-beers/year-round |

listened to lifes rich pageant earlier. sounded pretty good, although how would it have sounded if easter/dixon, or even joe boyd had produced it and taken that polished rock sheen off it? does anybody know if the (incorrect)track listing on the back was what was originally planned, or just rem (stipe?) being difficult?? |

Kev, Maybe it was a last minute switch of the running order and the artwork was already being printed up? During the night before the six screen Paris premier of his 1969 movie Army Of Shadows, director Jean-Pierre Melville switched the closing scene of the Army Of Shadows to the opening scene. He had been contemplating the switch for weeks and was driving the editor (future Oscar winner Françoise Bonnot) crazy. Only half the Paris theaters got the revised edited version before the first screenings the following day. JPM was right to make the switch, as it is one of the most powerfull opening scenes of all time. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ING NJA/ref=atv_feed_catalog&tag=imdb-amazon video-20 |

From REM FAQ "Reportedly, the song order on LRP was changed at the last minute, too late for the cover art to be changed. While it's anybody's guess why this was not subsequently corrected for later domestic vinyl and CD pressings, it *has* been corrected for many foreign and record club versions. Bear in mind that the off-beat creativity of the mixed-up list, and the cryptic "lyrics clues," is typical of the band. Note also that some European issues of LRP have the proper track order, but list "Superman" as "Superwoman." On a related note, the song "When I was Young" is listed on the sleeve of Fables of the Reconstruction, but was dropped at the last minute, destined to reappear later in quite revised form on LRP as "I Believe."" can't believe i have never noticed that bit about the dropped track before. i have 3 copies of this album (vinyl,cd, and deluxe reissue), and sure enough it's listed on all 3. |
