I've just been listening to Acoustic Stories and when it got to Cattle And Cane I thought of how we'll never hear Grant sing this live again. First time in a long time that thought struck me so forcefully. |

I had a similar experience a few day ago, while listening to Before Hollywood in the car. This is all gone, the voice, the singing, the bass playing etc. of Grant. I'm listening through the albums one by one (I have not been doing that since way back). Now I think that both Send Me A Lullaby and Before Hollywood are the rough trade/post punk albums, where SMAL have something of the 'naive' melodicism of the first singles remaining, and BH is a first step beyond the angular structures of SMAL. I once adored BF but belittled SMAL (a bit). Now I think that they are not that far apart (and both very good). |

Listening to Bachelor Kisses from Acoustic Stories now. Best song on it, and best version of Bachelor Kisses. |
