Peter, is the title of the Josh Pearson song a "Miller's Crossing" reference? If so, I love that song regardless of what it sounds like.

Rob,

As far as I can tell it's a respectful nod towards this...

A fine Walkinstown accent on Gaybo!

Yep, I figured. One of my fave movies ever, and I think it's excellent Pearson tapped that line for a song title.

Possible next picks for Josh:
What's the rumpus?
Who you gonna belieive?
Nobody knows anybody, not that well.
You can't say, "I told you so."
I don't say that and I don't like people who do.
Look into your heart.
I told him you were a tramp and he should dump you.
I said we're through. That's not the same thing.

Hey, Michael:

How 'bout "dangle flunky" or "drop dead, ape."

Good ones Rob! Miller's Crossing is one of my all time favorites as well. Hammett would have loved it, even though it borrowed some of his plot lines and themes from Red Harvest and The Dane Curse.

Mark,
I'm enjoying The Black Keys album too, I only got it after I finished the compilation, they're getting steadily better and are supposed to be excellent live so I'll hope to see them in 2012.
I abandoned Ryan Adams after a woeful concert in support of the Rock'n'Roll album, his first few albums after Whiskytown were excellent, is this a return to form?

Michael, your Millers Crossing Quips read like a Pearson lyric above, stick a few minor chords to that and you could have a minor hit on your hands!

Hey Peter - I've been ambivalent about The Black Keys in the past. Seen them live a couple of times and they are sensational. But on record I've usually found them dull. I had them bracketed as one of those bands that only made sense live (see also Queens of the Stone Age).

But the latest album is stonking good fun - bluesy and soulful, but with a winning pop sensibility.

Ashes and Fire is real return to form for Ryan Adams. On the first few listens I was a bit underwhelmed because most of the songs are similarly paced so it came off as a bit bland. But it's a slow burner and I now rate it as one of my favourites of the year. The songs are top notch and his voice is in terrific form.

Some great songs on your list Peter including the PJ Harvey. I've got tickets to see her as part of the Sydney Festival in mid-Jan and really looking foward to it.

And of course I've managed to not spot the misspelling of Melody input by whomever input the track titles from the Panics EP.
