A review of the forthcoming book with an excerpt from Chris Robert's piece: http://thequietus.com/articles/09967-the -spirit-of-talk-talk I have a copy on the way despite reservations on the merits of covering this band above all other bands (especially the later material) I was still curious to hear the results. James Marsh's prints are real quality and I am anticipating that this production will be also. |

Had read that article earlier Peter and pulled out Spirit of Eden to listen to. Its just an extraordinary piece of work and I curse myself for coming late to this bands music. I had dismissed them as inferior new romantics and how wrong was I? I think the author sums it up well when he says something along the lines of some music being impossible to cover due to the chemistry of the band that made it. He cites MBV as an example, I would add Joy Division. Others might argue that the more an artist is covered the better the songs (eg The Beatles) but I would disagree. |

I would add The Necks and The Dirty Three to the uncoverable also Kevin, for the same reasons. It's curious the sheer volume of Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen covers out there and with a few exceptions none of them ever improve on the originals. Will revert on the Talk Talk covers. |

Gang of Four and Pere Ubu also come to mind as uncoverable. |

my copy of the book just arrived, it's a lovely thing, shiny padded cover like a weird wedding album, great artwork and some nice photos, will read tonight |
