Finding themselves new neighbours in Canada, Glasgow- born Norman Blake and Joe Pernice from Massachusetts began a low-key collaboration in a Toronto tavern. Their performances were marked by plenty of banter, open-tunings and sublime pop smarts. Now they bring their two-man show to Australia under the guise of The New Mendicants. Two of the most sublime and revered songwriters of the ‘90’s, Blake and Pernice between them have founded Teenage Fanclub, Scud Mountain Boys, BMX Bandits and Pernice Brothers. Performing together on stage, they delve into each other’s hefty back catalogues as well as their new material. Mobile Industries is proud to present Joe Pernice and Norman Blake on tour. January Tue 22 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne Wed 23 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne Tickets from www.northcotesocialclub.com Thu 24 – Blackbear Lodge, Brisbane Tickets from www.mobileindustries.oztix.com.au Feb Thu 7 – The Grace Emily, Adelaide Tickets from www.mobileindustries.oztix.com.au This I would love to see. Next stop Ireland I hope. |

No Sydney show listed so far. I presume one will be added though. |

With you on this one Lewishead, here's hoping. See Joe reformed the Scud Mountain Boys and has been playing some shows over the last year? I was listening to the "Massachusetts" album through the spectacular colours of Interstate 95 this time last year, fond memories. Bet this pair would do a mean "September Gurls" |

Peter, I saw Teenage Fanclub at the Tivoli around 1994 (I bet you were at the same show) and they played September Gurls in the encore. The half hour encore was far better than the 50 minute main set. I was thrilled to hear them play September Gurls as I was certain I would never hear Big Star play it ... but seven years later I did hear Big Star play it at the Red Box (I bet you were at that too). |

@Padraig. Assuming you mean the Tivioli in Dublin 1994, I was at that gig too. I do remember the main set being a bit shambolic, with the drummer Brandan O'Hare being particularly out of it. |

I just found out that The New Mendicants are playing London in July. I saw Joe Pernice in London last year and enjoyed it, although I was dissapointed with his song choices - guess you can't please everybody! Seeing Norman Blake takes me back to seeing The Fannies play in Spain supporting the Go-Betweens on what turned out to be their last tour. I found The New Mendicants excellent cover of Finding You and thought that I really should share it here. I think Grant would have approved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ECjO-V9p cA |

I saw on One Little Indian website that they are playing Whelans in Dublin on 7th July, but it hasn't surfaced on the Whelans website yet. |

While I like the Pernice Brothers recorded efforts and have four of thier cd's, the one time I saw them live in 2005 I wasn't impressed. To be fair though it wasn't a great venue and the turnout was poor. |
