I think we did have this question before, but we didn't have to narrow it down to one, which is too hard. The definitive postpunk groups are, as others have already mentioned, Joy Division and PiL. I could easily go with Kevin's or Jerry's picks, or toss out "Poptones" and "She's Lost Control"...or "Albatross" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart." Depends on the mood of the day. | ||

strolling down the threads i found this interesting one. as luck would have it i just finished simon reynold's book 'rip it up and start again' which is a good reminder of a fabulous and exciting period (and worth to be read). a lot of tracks out of this era could be best post punk song ever. to name just one seems impossible. so i normally have to quit. but thinking over a while it is clear as a star in a bright night. it only can be joy division's love will tear us apart. even though it is the most popular song of joy division it is still a pleasure (despite of the lyrics) to listen to it. and the intro is truly 'post-punk', isn't it? by the way: 'nouvelle vague' released their second album. they repeated their formula 'new wave classics covered in the bossa nova style', but add a few colours to it. yes, it is music to singalong with. it makes fun and puts a smile on your face. not more, but even not less. |
