Saw Greg Dulli's Twilight Singers live in Glasgow last night. What a gig, this guy really knows how to put a show on. The venue was cramped, hot, sweaty and sold out - just the place to see Mr Dulli. He's back palying guitar again and he gave everyting for 90 mins, his band really kick ass too. The set was mostly from his fantastic new album, although tracks from Blackberry Belle were also played. I gathered he had been playing a few Afghan Whigs songs lately but last night only played "66". Cover versions included Buick McKane by T Rex, and fittingly for Greg, Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. All in all fantastic, although not quite as good as when the Afghan Whigs played the same venue (King Tuts in Glasgow) about 8 or 9 years ago. If you get a chance, go see them, the next leg of the tour has Mark Lanegan in the band too. |

I really like Twilight Singers and loved Afghan Whigs. Hope that show with Lanegan comes to Sydney. I saw the Whigs in Dublin in 1994 and was a bit disappointed. I'd seen Pavement in the same venue the previous night and they were brilliant, so anything else was bound to suffer a bit in comparison. |
