Anyone else seen this horrible flaming piece o' poo?.Been too hot to do much else lately, so I've been watching a lot of movies...This, I thought might be good, since it's from the same director that made 24 Hr. Party People, but sadly, I was way wrong... Any other flicks you want to point out as being total suck ass dawgs? If nothing else to save your pals precious time? |

Never had any desire to see it. Pornographic films are not my thing. Not saying it's your thing Hardin, but you should have known really. His new one, Tristram Shandy, is very good though. |

Actually Padraig, I have no particular stance on pornography, nor any self-righteous moral objection to it. It has its place and at the end of the day, who cares? And it'd be cruel to put all those people in the Valley out of work. But this was not presented as, or intended to be pornography (if, by which, you mean lurid material intended to elicit arousal) any more than say, "Last Tango In Paris". As I understood it, loftier artistic turf was meant to be staked out. Sadly, this was no Last Tango in Paris, it wasn't even a Last Tango in Poughkeepsie..what it was mostly was suffocatingly dull, even the concert scenes, which I had high hopes for, having been interested in some of the bands represented. Sometimes because I'm (hopefully) open minded, I'll go out on an artistic limb with an artist that has some "cred in the bank", as Winterbottom (sic?) did after the smashing "Party People". Though, alas and alack, sometimes you get burned. Which makes me reluctant to try "Shandy", which I'm given to understand also involves some creative risks, though you do picque my curiousity. I'm sure I'll eventually rent it, though. |

Rent "Tristram Shandy" without hesitation, Har...er, Little Keith. I'm confident that if you liked "Party People," you'll like it too. How can you go wrong with a movie that features Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, and Gillian Anderson? |

Hardin, I don't mean to have any self-righteous moral objection to porn. My objection to that film was precisely because it was trying to present itself as some piece of arthouse statement but it clearly was nothing more than old-fashioned porn. And I say that without ever having seen it. When a director and the actors involved go out of their way and protest too much that "it's not porn, it's art" then alarm bells ring for me. It's a very simple equation for me: actual fucking on film = porn. There was an English film called Intimacy in 2001 which had Kerry Fox, the New Zealand actress from Shallow Grave, giving actual (not simulated) oral sex in it. This was also porn masquerading as art (though again, I did not see it). She even had her mother beside her in interviews where she was protesting that it wasn't porn! Yes it was! My objection to this is not an anti-porn crusade but an anti-pretentious art crusade. If a film is being marketed based on its actual sex/ blow jobs then it's porn. |

I'm with you on the anti-pretentious art thing, Mr. Collins. Don't really know what the definition of pornograpy is, but I know it when I see it! How do you keep a straight face when treating that patient, Jerry? |

Hardin, you are but an apprentice to the scorcer that is our man Spence when it comes to multiple postings - this man is in a league of his own actually, i'm sure any time I have fallen foul of a duplicate post there is a message that comes up saying that this is not allowed, or words to that effect. |
