I was very shocked to find that Arthur Lee had passed away. I LOVED, LOVE! They were so unique and melodic. They played a great influence on me, they had the magic. They were multiracial too. Forver Changes will always have its place in music history thank God. The digital world will never take that away. Lee played Bilston, in a small club a few miles away from me, quite recently a couple of times and I kept meaning to go down, alas I never made it and I deeply regret it. |

Yes Spence, sad news indeed. Forever Changes and most of De Capo are timeless records. I was lucky enough to see Arthur Lee and Love (as they were billed) twice in one year, 2003 I think. First of all at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh where it was a fairly rock n roll type show, playing all the classics. Later on that year they played Queens Hall in Edinburgh which is a fantastic venue, it used to be a church so as you can imagine the acoustics are fantastic. This time it was the same band but they were augmented by a fairly large string and horns section. Well, if the first time I saw them was good, this was the dogs bollocks. The middle section of the show was Forever Changes in its entirety and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Arthur Lee in the flesh is (was) a very imposing figure, the man must be 6ft 4, and built like a tank, although he never appeared to be carrying any flab. he was also the coolest performer I have ever seen, the way he ambled out from the side of the stage for both gigs was amazing, you can't manaufacture that kind of cool. God Speed big fella. http://www.nme.com/news/love/23819 http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/Arthur_Lee_of_Love_Dead_at_61 |

Wow, this is terrible news. Love is one of my very favorite bands ever! Da Capo, Forever Changes - all such brilliant classics and some of my all time favorite records from the 60s, not to mention ever. I deeply regret not having seen any of the reunion shows. I was either too poor at the time, or had other things going on, but now I feel like such an idiot. Lee has been such a massive influence, not just on me, but so many of my favorite bands, like the Pale Fountains and early Aztec Camera, to name just a few. A sad, sad day. |

I guess its enevitable that news like this will be come more and more frequent as the months and years go by. Apart from Grant, who was taken too early, our rock n roll stars will age just like the rest of us and will succumb to diseases that come with that. Syd Barret, Billy Preston, Desmond Dekker, Nikki Sudden and Arthur have all gone in the last few months - I'm sure there are more too. On a lighter note, whats the betting Keef outlasts Bono,The Gallacher brothers, Bowie, Thom Yorke and all the younger generation of rock stars - that man is immortal. |

Sad news indeed. 'Forever Changes' never fails in its magic to move me or for me to find something new in it. Timeless. A genuine classic and we use that word too lightly now perhaps. |

that's sad too, although I neer really liked them, wilst looking for the World of twist news articles on the net I stumbled acorss this, from the ad to the absurd: Rocker TOMMY LEE fears he has an erection problem - he's nearly always hard. The MOTLEY CRUE star admits he always has sex on his mind, which causes a stiff problem when he's out in public. He tells Blender magazine, "I get plane-ons, cab-ons, limoons... My d**k is hard all the time. "I'm like, 'Is that OK? Is there something wrong with me?' I don't think that's normal." |

Oh them were the days!! Polish dissident haircuts, biker jackets and semi acoustics!!!!!!! |

Andrew, love the lingo, though it took this Yank a moment or two to translate... Here, in the hood, a conk is a chemically straightened hair-style, so I was momentarily confused...In his great song, "Invitation to the Blues", Tom Waits references it: "She's a walking contradiction/ From her conk down to her shoes"... The big-conked Bazza's music makes me want to break furniture, but it'd be nice to have his dough, I guess... |

Joseph Hill, the lead singer from the mighty reggae group Culture has died while on tour in Berlin. I'm guessing he would be early 50s. I think we are now at the stage in the history of popular music where the artists we grew up with could be dying on an almost monthly basis. For those not familiar with Culture, their album Two Sevens Clash is one of the few along with Burning Spear and Marley which sometimes makes those 100 (or 200/300 etc) Greatest Albums list. I for one, shall play it tonight and raise a glass to Joseph. RIP |
