Hey, I noticed they'd reissued Sebadoh III and that the promo material on the sticker, etc., quotes critics as deeming it a '90's indie milestone...don't really know that much about it. Opinions, anybody? | ||

Yeah, read lots of reviews recently basically saying things like milestone, seminal etc Hardin. I was really into Sebadoh in the mid 90s, when Lou B was at the height of his songwriting powers on Bakesale and Harmacy. III is more ramshackle, lofi and inconsistent than the latter two although it is a good album in isolation.I would compare(not musically) III with Zen Arcade and Let It Be in Husker Du and The Replacements respective canons. In my opinion these 2 really good albums are not as high in song writing quality as, say, Pleased To Meet Me and Warehouse Songs and Stories, but for attitude, power and youthful enthusiasm, accompanied with some great songs they are probably seen in a higher critical light, just like III. | ||

Thanks man...that was helpful. Basically, my music collection is meant to bring pleasure to me, not be some kind of historical archive, so it sounds like I can live without III, and that my money would be better spent purchasing the other ones that I also don't have...given a choice, I'll always go for the consistent, hi fi and whatever the opposite of ramshackle is...you've saved me buying another "destined to be unplayed" disc, of which I have far too many already... | ||

Hardin, having looked up ramshackle in the dictionary I think a better word might actually be chaotic, although even then I'm not sure that fully explains what I mean, wheres that bloody Aussie journalist when you need him  . In my defence,it's late(here), I have been getting up at 05:30am all week for work and I still have Sunday to work. Should be a good day tomorrow though, my wifes birthday and a few days off. My weekend officially starts at 16:30 on Sunday afternoon, yippee. | ||

LK, Thanks. She is into music, but not in that all encompassing way that us guys are. She likes going to gigs, this year she has been with me to see Morrissey, Drive By Truckers and The Twilight Singers. Frighteningly, she had to "chum" her sister to a James Blunt concert which she described as "dreadful". Surely only a woman would be compassionate enough to accompany someone to a gig like that, I would rather have my toenails removed than go and see that pile of poo. She really only listens to music in the car, she has access to my Napster so downloads stuff she likes on to a Creative Zen player which she plays through the car stereo. She plays anything from The Doors, to Nina Simone, via Robert Palmer all the way to the Pixies. Pretty catholic taste, again that might be a girl thing. ps - if my posts later on tonight are rambling thats because I aim to get bladdered with Bud Silver, which I havent tried yet. | ||

Jerry, Strangely, for a big multi national like Anheuser Busch (sp?) this drink seems to be a well guarded secret. A few weeks ago there were a few adverts for it, but nothing major. Nobody, apart from one supermarket seemed to stock it, again this is strange given you can't normally move for crates and crates of normal Bud. I think they are marketing it as a European style beer, so dont know if its just being given a dry run here in the UK or if they are selling it worldwide. |
