I hope none of our American posters lost anyone close to them in the atrocity in Orlando. I hope that doesn't come across as trite. It's certainly not meant to. How can anyone hate a group of people so much? The latest reports say the murderer was a regular at the club himself. Congress – mostly the Republicans, but some Democrats too – will block any effort at change, and it's only a matter of time before I'm posting here about the next massacre in America. The mass murder of school children, movie goers, college students, people in a gay nightclub; none of it matters to those in the pocket of the NRA. | ||

Spot on, Padraig. And Simon: what a joke. Have you ever heard of an instance in a mass shooting where America's so-called "well-armed militia" stepped up and returned fire? I'm not advocating for that - most of those dopes would likely cause more carnage than the original shooter - but if guns are supposedly so essential to our security and so ubiquitous in our lives, where are the brave, second-amendment-worshiping patriots in a crisis? The only thing these morons do with concealed carry is shoot themselves in the leg, terrorize their spouses and turn routine traffic disputes into murder scenes. It's great to be an American. | ||

If gun nuts didn't care about the slaughter of elementary school children they certainly won't care about the slaughter of some people in a gay bar. I have no doubt whatsoever that a large minority of people in the U.S. looked at Orlando and said something along the lines of "just culling the herd." |
