Jeanne Moreau - Le Tourbillon de la vie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjJqHF0m b_k My partner got a box set of all of Truffaut's films as a present, and we are watching them in chronological order... This song is from his third film "Jules et Jim". I had always believed that it was written for the film, but apparently its composer Serge Rezvani, who plays the guitar and is in the film as Moreau's lover Albert, wrote it some 5 years before for Jeanne Moreau. She had just split up with his best friend. |

Interesting Andrew. From 1971. This has got to appeal to Hugh Nimmo. The only thing slightly off-putting for me is the electric piano but the songs are well conceived and there's none of that ersatz country thing so many early 70s singer/songwriters did too much of. An interpreter could take these songs and make them into whatever he or she wanted. I wonder if anybody ever did. Yay! Real piano on "I Could be You." |

Seeming - Holy Fire. New to me, but this has been out since 2015. Buying downloads from Bandcamp has led to many more great discoveries when the labels send recommendations. Anyone else here use Bandcamp? I really like it. It's easy to use, gives multiple choices of download format (from variable bit rate to lossless) and, presumably, gives the bands a better deal than iTunes does. |

Randy, I am interested ( thank you Andrew ) but I am being put off by the fact that 'Songs' is only being made available on vinyl and as a digital download. Strange decision as the retrospective ( Time Moved On ) is being made available on CD. There is also a second retrospective ( Draw Near To Me ) which will be available as a free download to purchasers of Songs / Time Moved On. I am waiting to hear what audio file formats 'Draw Near To Me' will be made available in. LP Tracklist: A1 Sometime When I'm Lucky A2 A Gentle Day A3 The Farewell A4 Wrong Train Blues A5 It Would Be You A6 Wayward A7 I'm A Lucky Soul B1 Find Yourself B2 There's No Hurry B3 Right Kind Of Lover B4 Melody Of Numbers B5 Laurel And Hardy B6 Concentrating B7 He Belongs With You Time Moved On Tracklist: 1. Padraig, I am a regular user of Bandcamp and have been for several years. It is where I purchase the vast majority of my digital downloads. The site is a haven for artists / bands who do not have recording contracts and who struggle to get their music heard on the radio etc. It allows them to sell their music in whatever format they choose ( CD, Digital Download and Vinyl.) |

I'm a Bandcamp guy, too. I use them for both physical and digital whenever possible, especially for artists on small labels. I'm quite familiar with the cut iTunes, Amazon, and their ilk take. Don't get me wrong: I very much appreciate the fact a barely operational label and hardly visible bands can enjoy what amounts to global distribution through those providers. But times have changed and Bandcamp is way friendlier to the artist if the consumer is willing to forgo the one-click purchasing convenience of the big merchants. Plus, if you're a digital geek with lots of hard drive space they have FLACs! |
