Like good poems or movies, sometimes the lyrics of a good song can build toward an exciting conclusion or an unexpected twist, often delivered in a killer last line of the song(before the repeated chorus fade out).

I was just wondering if any one could recall a song with which they reached an earth shattering climax on the impact of the final line.

For me Love Minus Zero/No Limit by Dylan.

At intervals through out the song he refers to his love as some stoic figure who "Knows too much to argue or to judge". Then in the last verse things get a little ominous as "the bridge at midnight trembles" and "the night blows cold and rainy" Then finaly "My love she's......" If you haven't heard the song I wouldn't want to spoil it.

I used to love the song 'Psycho'. Not sure who wrote it (someone will know), but the Beasts of Bourbon did a haunting version of it. The verses involve a guy telling his mother that he killed his ex-girlfriend, his brother, a girl in the park, etc.
The last line goes: "Oh mama, why don't you get up?"

OTOH: Sex Pistols, "EMI"

Not so much the line itself, but the way it's sort of squeezed in at the end of the song, at the last second...

David: Psycho was credited on the album (Beasts of Bourbon's "The Axeman's Jazz"), strangely, to a "Jack Kittel." It's also been covered (in a weird, mellow acoustic fashion) by CCW (Hugh Cornwell, Roger Cook, Andy West) and credited (correctly) to Leon Payne. It also was played by Teddy Thompson on the ersatz Psycho (1998) "soundtrack," and there also are TWO versions on Elvis' "Almost Blue."

I agree, that line is a great payoff to the rest of the song. I've heard folks actually bust out laughing at that point, without realizing the background behind it (scroll down to where it talks about Leon Payne):

Dylan is probably the master of this category. I mentioned "Positively Fourth Street" in another thread and I have to go with it again here (though I guess this is more a last verse than last line):

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

I've never heard "Psycho," though. Gotta check that one out.

Doesn't Elvis Costello do a version of "Psycho" too? I also have no idea who wrote it but the Beasts make it their own.
For best last lines, I'm going to suggest my usual predictable and gratuitous Beatle track too..."It's all too much" ends with George moaning "we are dead!!!".

I always liked that bit on "Walk away Renee", and afterwards when he goes on about "Mr Potato-Head". Makes me laugh every time.

One I forgot about that's a killer is from Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel #2":

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
that's all, I don't even think of you that often.

Ouch.
