Seem to recall a few fans of The Bathers on here before, Hugh, Spence, Randy maybe? Anyhow appears there is a new album in the offing next year and a concert in a Glasgow Church in January. Sweet Deceit is one of my all time favourite albums, plenty of other great songs too. http://www.celticconnections.com/events/ Pages/event.aspx?ev=92b1225a-bede-4399-b 59a-a53301424cef |

The band have a new website and it seems that some exciting news is coming tomorrow ( 16 October, 2016.) This will coincide with a gig at The Lexington, London, so I am guessing we may be about to receive official confirmation of a new album. http://www.thebathersofficial.com Link to an article on the band in The Times earlier this month. http://peterross.scot/articles/the-bathe rs/ |

Peter, I have tickets for St. Luke's Glasgow, on Tuesday 18 October, 2016. I have just been on the unofficial website forum and Jimmy who has run same for years is not yet convinced that the release of a new album is in the offing. Click on 'Show Comments' in entries 120 and 121. http://www.thebathers.com/lazarusgb/ |

The band did not play any new songs at Saint Luke's in Glasgow on Tuesday night. I spoke to a few people connected with the band and, from what was said, I don't think we will see a new album anytime soon. I hope I am wrong. |

Sigh. After such wonderful returns by Robert Forster and Peter Milton Walsh, I'm becoming spoiled. I feel almost entitled to a wonderful return by Chris Thomson. I've long believed that good artists continue to make great art as they age, even if they probably do so less prolifically than in their youth. There's the unique depth and seasoning that age permits and for anyone who continues to pay attention in his or her life there's no shortage of material. Sadly I have often been disappointed by aging artists who failed this promise. They try to be who they were instead of who they are. I perceive Chris Thomson to be the sort of person who can pull something deep and special out of where and who he is NOW. Perhaps it won't be the romance of ephemeral young love; perhaps it will be the romance of life. The Bathers are yet another on the long list of great artists brought to my attention by Hugh. I hope to see them perform one of these days. |

I went to the Edinburgh show on Wednesday. I thought the sound was pretty poor and I'm not much of a fan of the piano pieces. That said, they have some great songs. I was given some fairly vague story about Chris having lots of new songs. Audience, I'd guess was 250, of which 85% male and average age 48. |

Burgers, Surprised to hear that the sound at the Edinburgh show on Wednesday night was poor as, in my opinion, the sound at Saint Luke's, Glasgow, on Tuesday 18 October, 2016, was very good ( perhaps even better than the gig I attended at Queens Cross Church, Glasgow, earlier this year.) Old converted churches often have excellent acoustics so perhaps the venue in Edinburgh contributed in some way to the poor sound. I was also given the story that Chris has a lot of new songs. The person who passed on the news was much less forthcoming when I asked about the new album mentioned on the band's official website. I was left with the distinct impression that it has not yet been recorded / fully recorded. The fact that no new songs were played at the Glasgow show suggests to me that it might be some time yet before we see a new album. I know Jimmy ( long time moderator of the band's unofficial website ) is sceptical of a imminent release. |

Two songs ( Saskia; Yellow Crombie ) recorded on Tuesday night at Saint Luke's, Glasgow, posted on the unofficial website by Jimmy ( Moderator.) They were recorded by Jimmy from the centre of the hall. http://www.thebathers.com/bweb2/main// If you have a problem accessing the site then try enabling Adobe Flash Player. |

Listening now, Hugh. For others, it takes a while before the Somer Valley FM page will show the calendar and a list of programs for listening. At least when I loaded the page it insisted upon loading all of the programs for listening and not just one of them, so that makes it take longer. But eventually you're good to go. |

A excerpt of a track from the soon to be released second album by Starless ( Paul McGeechan ) that may appeal to fans of The Bathers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPA-cuRO 1L4 |
