I’ve just pressed play. The first track is a great 60s style garage rock song. https://robsnarski.bandcamp.com/album/so meone-said-that-someone-said

Entertaining, Pádraig. I swear "Shane O'Mara Wore Mascara" is intended to sound like a Robert Forster song and "Mexico, I Have Never Been There" is intended to sound like a Grant McLennan song.
Copy ordered.

I’m going to see her band on Friday night. I’ll let you know how it is.

I'm jealous!

Marrickville, eh? Not a million miles from where I saw the Go-Betweens in 1988 - the Enmore Theatre where they were supported by the Died Pretty, among others.

I ended up on stage as part of the hypnotist's act (it was a strange night) but didn't get hypnotised.

Enjoy the gig.

Thanks, Simon. It’s the same venue where I saw Don McGlashan (The Mutton Birds’ main man) last year, a lovely old Greek club. That night was also when I discovered that Marrickville is the geographically biggest suburb of Sydney, having first got a bus to completely the wrong side of it and then walking several kilometres to the venue, asking random strangers for directions and trying to figure out Google maps’ instructions. I won’t make that mistake again.

Don't get lost, and then enjoy the gig!

Years ago my wife and I, on holiday in Prague, went to watch Slavia Prague play football (soccer) - only to find they'd moved to a new stadium.

Luckily we met a German couple who'd also gone to the old stadium, and we shared a taxi from one end Prague to the other, and we only missed a few minutes of the game.

I know from my year in Sydney in 1988 and trips there since that Sydney is a monster of a city to get around, especially if you're cycling...

Simon, I didn't get lost. Your Slavia Prague story is hilarious, btw. And yes, Sydney is a very hilly city. And windy. Two pretty bad things for cyclists.

The gig was brilliant. Lindy was on sparkling form and mentioned how she had family members in the front row (and Amanda Brown) and her ex was manning the merch table at the back. I bought the SnarskiCircusLindyBand CD, but wasn't tempted to get the tea towel which had caricatures of Lindy and Rob Snarski on it.

Most of the core band from the album were on stage with LM and RS. Evil Graham Lee played some fantastic pedal steel and Shane O'Mara played superb lead guitar. Only Dan Kelly was missing, off touring somewhere with his uncle Paul. So a woman called, I think, Allison Gould filled in admirably on bass.

I think they played all six songs from the mini-album, with Snarski taking the vocals in the one Kelly normally sings, Mexico, I Have Never Been There, which, as Randy pointed out above is very Grant McLennanesque.

I didn't recognise most of the other songs played, so they must be Snarski solo songs. Almost all were great though, so there's another back catalogue I'm going to have to seek out.

Lindy spoke almost as much as RS and was clearly loving it all. She somehow hasn't aged a day in 30 years. The first piece of the 'encore' (they didn't bother with the pretence of leaving the stage and coming back on) was Snarski reading a touching and hilarious excerpt from his book about bumping into Ed Kuepper in Newtown sometime in the 80s and being awestruck that Kuepper knew who he was.

A tremendously enjoyable night all round.

Oh, and Lindy's band is supporting Amanda's band at a much bigger and swankier venue in the city next month. I'll be there.

Just to echo your comments Pádraig, it was terrific gig. Very nice venue too - I'm back there in a couple of weeks to see The Delines.

As you say Lindy was in fine form, both musically and with her banter. Was very impressed by Rob Snarski's voice. Like you I will have to investigate his (very extensive!) back catalog.

I was probably sitting about 5m away from you Pádraig! I did snap up a copy of the LP from the merch stand and very much enjoying it. I found it touching the merch stand was manned by Lindy's ex.
