Two strong songs (courtesy Messrs Cave & Albarn) from Marianne Faithfull’s Before the poison album. On first hearing I thought Crazy love might actually be translated lesser known Brel, but no, possibly just a fine homage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kc49W14 2Sc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBoaaiqq Vy4 |

XTC - Mayor Of Simpleton, which the YouTube algorithm just (wisely) suggested for me. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ciq0wlhwUV w |

Bob Dylan – Sign on the Window “Find me a song about windows”, snapped the wife, for one of her innumerable post-retirement projects. And this little beauty turned up, proving once again that there’s perhaps no such thing as “minor Dylan”. Gorgeous piano: “Guitarist Ron Cornelius recalls, "Dylan had a pretty bad cold that week. You can hear it on ['Sign on the Window'], y’know, that bit about 'Brighton girls are like the moon,' where his voice really cracks up. But it sure suits the song. His piano playing’s weird...because his hands start at opposite ends of the keyboard and then sorta collide in the middle—he does that all the time—but the way he plays just knocks me out.” (Wikipedia) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfgUkGCy uKU |

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Broken Circle. He has rerecorded the Ragged Glory album. This is the renamed version of Over and Over. I’m mystified as to why the 78-year-old Young has rerecorded an album he made when he was 44. The music doesn’t sound like it’s being played by guys pushing 80, but his voice sure does. I’ll wait to hear the rest of it before passing judgement, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiTaAF4S 1eE |

Stuart, agree it is a lovely song. In fact the album New Morning is much under-rated. Although only an average album in the Dylan canon, there are a few nuggets on here. Im listening to it again now that you have mentioned the song. |

Great singing from a guy with a bad cold! Meanwhile: Barbara & Ernie – Play with Fire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4xJonsY odI A cool, late-night groove that really comes alive with the chorus from the one-off (rather ironically titled) 1971 “Prelude to...” album by singer Barbara Massey and jazz guitarist Ernie Calabria: “Barbara & Ernie’s only release is a complex combination of soul, folk rock, and late 60s psychedelia. At first listen, it doesn’t seem too different from the commercial music of the time, but then you start to notice the electric sitars, the funk leaning bass, multi-layered vocals, and the particular textural choices that hint at jazz and world influence. There are a lot of elements at play and they all come together to make this unique and forgotten classic.” (Forced Exposure) |

Grant Hart performing She Floated Away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TUU8nuM FSs Perhaps not the greatest performance of one of my favourite Husker Du songs but a very emotional one. Happy 'leap day', fellow GBs fans! |
