BBC2 are showing that fantastic documentary "The Wonderful and Frightening World of Mark E Smith" tonight at 23:35. Its a must, I have saw it 3 or 4 times and will watch again tonight. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/listings/programmes.shtml?day=today&service_id=4224& filename=20060922/20060922_2335_4224_1267_60 This ones for our overseas Ricky Gervais fans. You may or may not know that the 2nd series of Extras is showing every Thursday night in the UK just now. Last night I had a recording mishap and missed the 2nd episode, which has David Bowie guesting. But due to the miracles of the internet, you and I can watch it, and the first episode, here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/ |

I had no idea there was a 2nd season of Extras...cool - Ricky Gervais is one of the comic greats of all time, I think. Thanks for passing that on. |

Sorry for the short notice, but Artsworld channel on Sky is showing Elvis Costello Live In Memphis from 2004 at midnight tonight. Assuming you dont read this post in time, I'm sure it will be repeated again just like The Flaming Lips, Stipe and Neil Young programmes they showed recently |

Thanks Andy, will watch again tomorrow if only to see the Bowie singalong at the end. I thought the pic quality via Windows Media Player was well above average for these things, was definetely watchable. More music updates. Tonight at 9pm Artworld are showing Road Movie by REM, this was filmed during the Monster tour. http://www.artsworld.com/genre/features.asp?ID=4174&genreID=1 Just after midnight tonight on BBC4 - PJ Harvey in concert. |

Kevin Did you see The Fall recently? I saw them at both Brick Lane and then the Galtymore a couple of weeks ago. Absolutley mind blowing - two different bands four days apart. I think he is really hitting a peak at the moment. Agree with the documentary - really good. |

C Gull, I heard from a friend of a friend that they are amazing live just now. Hasnt Mark E just hired a bunch of young Americans as his latest (43rd? ) version of The Fall. PS - If you havent seen Mark E reading the football results on BBC you havent lived. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHQcoPUEskA Heres a clip of Cruisers Creek http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1DaNWuMKNQ&mode=related&search= |

yes the Americans joined after the infamous plantain throwing incident on the US tour. Most of them returned to the US for a friends wedding leaving MES to form incarnation 44 (!) in time for the Galtymore. Amazingly they were also great - though in a different way. For a start there were two basses in the former line up! I think the first night at the Galtymore may even have been a hibrid of the two. There are some clips on YouTube somewhere. Footy results - highly recommended - love the way 'Lawro' (tosser) tries to get in with MES cracking a joke at the expense of 'Stubbsy'. |

If 'Lawro' is referring to Mark Lawrenson he is not a tosser. I got into the lift in The Irish Times one day in 2001 to find Mark Lawrenson in there before me. Though awestruck (I've been a Liverpool fan since I was 7-years-old) I managed to say a few words to him about how he thought that night's match was going to go - Ireland were playing in a World Cup qualifier. Top bloke, great Magnum PI-style moustache. |

Sorry Padraig, we'll have to agree to disagree - he is a tosser of the highest order. His Liverpoolness and moustache of course being two contributing factors! |

I would wager a pound to a penny that Mark E Smith would think Lawrenson was a tosser. Personally, I have no real opinion on "Lawro" apart from the fact he is a vein, sarcastic, ignorant, arrogant wazzock. |

Watched episode 3 of Extras tonight. Gervais and Merchant are really pushing the envelope now as far as they can to be Un-PC. Is it wrong to laugh at this humour because I did, although it wasnt belly laughs, it was a combination of laughter and a gasp of "christ, they'll get slaughtered for this". I wont spoil it for those who havent seen it yet, but lets just say there are "little people" involved. |

Just watched the Fall documentary again. Classic from Mark E Smith when he said his mother had told him that Elton John liked The Fall. Smith retorted, in thick Mancunian tones "I thought we must be doing summat wrong" |

Dont want to spoil it for those yet to see Extras, but the bit with the doll at the award ceremony was excruciatingly funny and cringeworthy in eqaul measures. |

Just trying to provide a public service Kurt That, and the fact that I am sober and bored because I get the dubious privelege of working both Saturday and Sunday this weekend and I cannot go out and socialise like most "normal" people do. 15-20 years ago I would have went to work with a raging hangover, not now. Only 20 minutes till the Solomon Burke documentary, so that will take up an hour or so. Now, if only I had an Audi TT!! |

What, because you want to go 140 mph or because you fancy a bit of "paradise by the dashboard light"? (to quote the awful Meat Loaf) By the way, I'm eagerly awaiting Extras to come to Netflix. I've watched clips, including the priceless one of Bowie serenading Gervais with the "pathetic little fat man" song. |

I bypassed this thread not wanting to get frustrated about all the things I don't get to see so I just saw Kevin's link for Fall YouTube videos. Thanks Kevin. Great stuff. I only saw the Fall once, with Brix shortly before she left the first time. At least I think that was the first time. What is a tosser? I thought maybe it was going to be a position in football but apparently not. |

Randy, I tried to post with an explanation of what a tosser is, using another term beginning with "w", but the web nazis vetoed it. Just lets say, a tosser, or a "w£4&er" likes to play solitaire |

Kevin Did n't think the Chris Martin Extras was quite as on the mark as the previous episodes though agree the doll bit was great. Randy - love the idea of a tosser being a position in football, in fact there are many times I have heard 'Soandso, you Tosser!' at the footy, however this was not a suggestion for a tactical switch in formation. Kevin's definition is entirely accurate. |

Art imitating real life with mr martin i am afraid... Its going to get unfunny after a while the guest celeb spot, i hope they don't do a nother series. The Bowie one will never be eclipsed. |

Looks interesting. But I wonder how interesting the film will be visually, given that the trailer seemed to use each of the 10 existing photos of Joe Meek about five times. |
