Meanwhile, bought Neil Young Live at Massey Hall in 1971, amazingly had the flat to myself Saturday morning, heard the whole thing straight through, sprawled on the sofa in the streaming sun...truly magnificent, NY in a state of grace, just voice, geetar & piano and some of the best songs ever written, including a couple I've never ever heard... great also to hear the almost palpable awe of the audience hearing stuff like A man needs a maid and See the sky about to rain for the first time ever! Also a lot of drawled humour between songs...ah, pure joy. I know it's maybe age & nostalgia, but can people still write songs like this?? |

Sounds great Stuart, I ordered it about an hour ago. I have a BBC session of him from '71, just after After The Goldrush and before Harvest was released, about 7 songs (half an hour show), hope it's as good as this... |

That's a compelling review, Stuart. I have so many NY live albums I wouldn't have thought I needed another. I think you've changed my mind. |

I'm sure it's good, but like Rob, I have to ask, "do I really need more live Neil Young albums?" It seems like he's done a gazillion versions of those songs, and my disposible income has its limits. There's just a little too much NY product on the market. I wish what Neil would do instead is have some sort of "subscription" deal on his website where fans could pay a reasonable annual fee and then have access to these archival releases via downloads. But the record company isn't going to go for that if there's money to be made selling the milk from the NY cash cow. |

I bought it, having little willpower when it comes to ole Shakey and it is predictably great...though I think your point is valid, Kurt. One added inducement I had to throw in the mix, though: it comes in a deluxe version with a DVD in surround sound mix, which I sprang for...I've been exploring them and they can quite fun and often sound pretty amazing - I've particularly enjoyed the ones I have by Talking Heads and the Bjork... I think he's saving his archival stuff for the long planned for box set of archives, which according to a little insert that comes with disc, is due later in the year...which, of course, begs the question, "why the hell did I buy this, if that's coming out?"... I guess it all goes to feed NY's nasty model train habit.... |

Actually, this may be the only live NY I have! which may explain my enthusiasm...but it's good to hear the songs sort of "almost on the day they were written", simply rendered, and with the man in such great voice...it feels like an occasion, rather than just another concert... |
