Bloody hell, talk about drama !!

My team, Celtic, won the Scottish Championship today with literally the last kick of the match. The game was tied at 1-1 and only a minute left on the clock, Celtic scored with a free kick to win the match 2-1. Any posts from me later tonight may well be incomprehensible :-)
No smart comments please!!

Oh I thought it was going to be about Widnes Vikings 62-6 win against Batley Bulldogs!

Well done the hoops (and you never know) you might get Liverpool in the CL next year.

Enjoy your night....I hope you booked tomorrow off work.

Cheers
Jon

And not exactly celebration time, but general relief that Royal made it into the second round for the French presidential elections. In my opinion (not that I have an entitlement to vote in my adopted country) Sarkozy is a man to be very afraid of.

Hey, Congrats, Kev. Nothing like the feeling when your team wins it all. Oh, Michael Jordan, those were the days...

Andrew, I'm interested in your thoughts on Sarkozy. He's come off as vaguely sinister in a lot of the reports I've read, but I'm relying on the English-language press (and what I can read in the French papers - my French is such that I miss a lot of nuance). What do you think the second round holds? And is Royal a good candidate overall, do you think? Or is it a lesser-of-two-evils kind of thing? I'd like to know what you're take on all this is.

Rob,

I am basically of the opinion that governments such as France's can only kid themselves about still having the power to change that much economically. That power now lies way above their control in the hands of massive multi-nationals and any notion of democracy is increasingly crushed underfoot by the all powerful and short-sighted capitalist system.

I have seen enough examples of that in Scotland, where attempts to cut unemployment by handing huge amounts of (public) money to companies to set up factories back-fired as they left after a few years for locations where labour was cheaper.

Royal is portraited as not having much of a plan, but I personally find Sarkozy extremely worrying: his outbursts on the inner cities are appalling and many are predicting huge riots if he wins. Incidentally the company that makes the abrasive cleaning product (Kärcher) that he threaten to cleanse the inner cities with recently took out page-size adverts to try and rebuilt its' public image!

I saw a news item about the Karcher flap, Andrew. Very funny. It's like Bush saying the Shiites in Iraq needed to be "Prozac-ed" into submission or something.

Saw a thing in the NY Times today that Sarkozy's polling pretty strongly against Royal. Hope that gap closes soon. When's the second round?

My favorite team, the Detroit Red Wings, beat the Calgary Flames in double OT to close out the Flames in 6 games and advance to the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs. They will play the Dallas Stars in the second round if Dallas beat Vancouver tonight in their game 7. If Vancouver wins, the the Red Wigns will play the San Jose Sharks in the second round.

I woke just after 2am (Sydney time) Kevin and fired up the BlackBerry to see that Celtic had won. Watched Nakamura's goal - with Japanese commentary! - later on Youtube. Brilliant.

Did you see Messi's goal for Barca against Getafe? Absolutely amazing. One of the greatest goals ever; I'm not kidding. Watch it on Youtube.

Padraig, I saw Messi's goal on Sky Sports. Definately the equal of Maradonnas goal against England, in fact I think he travelled further with the ball and beat more men. Then again, Messi was probably up against better players, rather than donkeys like Butcher and Fenwick :-)

Ease up Kevin. Fenwick was QPR captain once upon a time. On Soccer AM they played Messi's & Maradona's goal together, they are virtually identical. Messi is certainly a talented boy.

On a personal level QPR's Championship survival sparked jubilation in our small corner of West London. As if victory over Cardiff & 3 points aren't sweet enough.
I don't have a problem with Leeds on the whole but I'd like to see them relegated. If only for shutting up that grinning dwarf/sociopath Dennis Wise. He needs a dose of reality more than most.

Livepool for the champions league against old enemies Man U. With this prediction it will probably mean Chelsea play Milan in the final
