I'm wondering if, pre-"Rachel Worth", anyone used to compile 10 track theoretical Go-Betweens albums featurning five Grant and five Robert songs from the solo albums of the period? I figure you could pair "Watershed" with "Danger In the Past", "Fireboy" and "... Country Phone" and "... Bright Ray" with "Warm Nights". (Matching up the 24 song "Horsebreaker Star" with Roberts album of covers isn't really going to work though, is it?) Am I the only one anal enough to think of this? Or not ... |

I've never done it, but I know a guy who used to do it on tape, pre-CD burning revolution. |

Lawrence, we have indeed discussed this a bit before on various threads. So no, you are not alone. I have done it in the head (pre-burning revolution as PC says.) Grant's output far exceeds Robert but as many note, quantity does equate to quality. It could be a fair comparison. Do you fit in say, 2 Jack Frost records and F.O.C. is I could ever find the bloody thing!?! (Loved Suicide on the acoustic tour of '99.) Certainly they should be considered. What I have done is paired them by periods. So Grant's material on Botany Sessions, Watershed and Jack Frost I would be paired with RF's Botany and Danger in the Past, plus b-sides (I hear from others that Time Forget is quite good.) (Did Robert ever sing with Baby You Know?) I think the singer singing is my true requirement and very rarely do I accept a cover song as a qualifier but I'm willing to lift that bit to encompass the New York Girlfriend era of Robert (If I could ever get my hands on it.) So then you move on to the next period of Fireboy and Jack Frost II and Country Phone, etc. I've heard that Warm Nights, the touring band, was quite exceptional and better than the record. Again, I have no recorded material. Does anyone? That would certainly be worth inclusion as the album was a bit sketchy. Anyway, that's what my brain thinks. Perhaps it is time to exercise these thoughts or exorcise them instead. |

Ulrich, good list. I would somehow get Simone & Perry though on the 1994 "No Titel" album. Maybe dump No Peace In The Palace. |
