I have noticed from time to time that some people have added their tributes to Grant McLennan on this message board over the past year. Never before have I seen how the memory of an artist endures with such affection; from all that I have seen and heard no one deserved to be remembered like this more than Grant. The Go-Betweens have only recently become a welcome, significant part of my emotional soundtrack; apart from the wishes I'd come across their music sooner and the great appreciation I have developed for them, I know it is for others to have their say. I would have just loved Mr. McLennan; would love to hear from those of you that did before one year ago today. |

y'know before the internet, when i first used to watch the gb's, you know grant, i didnt know much about him. i knew people who knew him. but i knew nothing at all about him, however, when you looked at his picture in the press or watched him play live, he just always looked a kind, sincere man, i've never really thought about that way of looking at an artist, but he made me think, right off at the beginning, these thoughts, you know what? He was right! |

I met the Grant, Robert and Lindy at HMV in London and they all signed my Tallulah, and they had just played an acoustic showcase and were signing afterwards. Grant was my real favourite in those days as he seemed like one of us.I said something inane to him like is it weird to hear your own songs in a record shop and he replied politely that is was "kind of". It is only recently that I've been able to listen to his solo stuff. For months it was off limits. |

My thoughts are still: why why why? Why is someone so pure and talented gone, when golems like Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Jon Bon Jovi and Barry Gibb still walk among us? Someday I'll get over it... At least there's his music to enjoy... |
