Did anyone catch any of the Live Earth show from Sydney? Was that Amanda playing violin with Toni Collette's band? Only caught a minute of it, on the highlights. |

Did a quick Google and it is, indeed, Amanda. Weird. |

Call me critical, I think Toni whatsit's a good actress and all, but weren't they supposed to have real, you know, stars, for Live Earth? If they had her, why the hell not have Forster? HE'S a star, Jack! |

But alas, they only had the OTHER Robert Forster (the character actor from "Jackie Brown" and many others). Strangely, John Wilsteed was in his band. |

Actually, I heard that Tim Mustafa was also there, playing with the reconstituted Midnight Oil...or was that the reformed Mental As Anything? Geez, I hope it wasn't Men At Work! So that wasn't our Robert Forster in Jackie Brown? Hmm, I had thought he looked a little off in that.... |

That concert had such a lame line up! Even I - huge Crowdies fan that I am - couldn't muster up the courage to sit through the likes of "feral" John Butler, Missy Higgins, Eskimo Joe( I wish they'd do the eskimo roll and not resurface!) and Black Sabbath (SORRY, WOLFMOTHER!). Paul Kelly was there but by the time he announced he would appear it was too late. Toni Colette and the Finish are very Z grade. I agree she's a great actress and she may enjoy being in a band but what was she doing supposedly nearly HEADLINING a global concert? Ghostwriters with Rob Hirst are another group who spend most of their time doing the rounds of Returned Services League Clubs (R.S.L. clubs for short - Australian "institution")Just to show you how lame Australian music is at the moment, before the Crowdies were announced as headline, we nearly got Jack Johnson headlining!!!! I spent the weekend up the Hunter to get away from it all! |

"Did anyone catch any of the Live Earth show from Sydney? Was that Amanda playing violin with Toni Collette's band? Only caught a minute of it, on the highlights." Happened across this too. Only heard "Children of The Revolution". Thought Toni Collette did a good job of it. Was delighted to spot Amanda in the group. Nearly jumped off my seat pointing it out to my wife. I'm easily excited. |

Just after I read this, lo & behold it appeared on my TV screen. She wasn't recognisable on appearance, maybe I'd have noticed the sound but the chances are I'd have flicked over before the chance arrived. |

I was there with my 10 year old son. It was Amanda and she sounded good. Toni Collette sounded OK - a cut above Russell Crowe and most other actors turned rockers. Geoff - know what you mean about the line-up. Jack Johnson was as soporific as expected and Wolfmother really are Uriah Heep reincarnated. But Paul Kelly turned in a solid set and The John Butler Trio were suprisingly good. Never really liked his music - but he's a compelling live performer and his band (particularly the drummer) are excellent. But the Crowdies made it all worthwhile. As a fellow fan you would have loved their splendid set. Don't think I've seen a stadum crowd react like that since - ummm -Queen at Live Aid. Here's an interesting video taken from side-stage by the band's guitar tech as they played their last number. That's me and my son right up the back in the far stand: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac tion=vids.showvids&friendID=48778029&n=4 8778029&MyToken=8772cc9d-bd0c-46d1-8fab- bfab5613bd08 (you might have to cut and paste the above to string it together) |

Thanks for the vid Mark! I wait with baited breath for November 5th, even if it is at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Hope I'm not behind a non existent column! |
