does anyone know if/when disintegration is due to be suped up and rereleased anytime soon following on from the other ones? it's the only one i'm actually hanging out for. it's one of those records i know well from my old cassette/dodgy mp3s, but have never actually bought on cd. a friend called me from the gig last night and played "pictures of you" down the phone. i had to sit down. |

Joe, though I kinda find all of the Goth stuff a little silly and wish Robert Smith would eat a salad every now and then, I've always kind of liked the Cure, thought they had a great pop sensibility at work in their stuff. My "new-wave girlfriend", from the early 80s, replete with Thompson Twin braids, etc., adored them. "Just Like Heaven" is one of theirs that particularly grabs me, and in fact, Dinosaur, Jr. do a great version of it, too. |

I definitely gravitate more to the Cure's poppier stuff. I have friends who think the world of their dark, dirge-y stuff like "Pornography" but give me "Jumping Someone Else's Train" or "Head on the Door" anyday. In answer to your question, Joe, I think I read "Disintegration" was set for re-release sometime in '08. |

They hit the balance perfectly with Disintegration didn't they? A lot of the psychosis driven stuff is heavy going on earlier LP's Joe, Entreat is an exceptional live album of the Disintegration songs, I'd recommend. |

Yeah, I believe '08 for Disintegration. I used to love the Cure way back in my sullen teenage years. I do find I sill like them, though it's also partly nostalgia, since they were the soundtrack to my early teens. I like the dark stuff and the poppy stuff equally, though I probably have a greater appeciation for the poppy stuff today. For me, Disintegration was the last great Cure album, and honestly, the last thing they did that's worth listening to at all. Nothing they've done since holds a candle to Disintegration. |

Don't you ever want to say to Robert Smith: "Cheer up for goodness sake. Just think of all the millions you have in the bank. There you go, that'll cheer you up." He does give exceedingly funny interviews though. |

apparently he's a sweet guy. i've never been a big fan of theirs and have never made it through any of their older albums (pre head on the door) - nor have i made it past wish. a friend got me bloodflowers for my 18th i think and i just find it long and meandering. disintegration got it just right. '08 seems a while off, i might get a regular copy for the time being and consider a repurchase then. i'll check out that live record too, thanks jerry. |
