This may be old news to some. But I've only just heard about this. "Hilly Kristal aged 75... ... died on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 from complications from Lung Cancer". USNewswire A bit like the equally inspiring Tony Wilson he helped a lot of major talent shine. Hilly would allow any band play in his club as long as it was original material. Without his willingness to give so many bands a chance '70's Rock would have been a lot less interesting. R.I.P. |

I just read about it myself and was going to start a new thread, but you beat me to it. Yes, a lot of things would have played out very differently without Hilly Kristal and Tony Wilson. Odd that we lose them both in such short order. Without Hilly, would we ever have heard Television, Talking Heads, the Ramones, Blondie, Richard Hell, etc.? He's a giant in the history of good music. |

I was kind of looking forward to CDGB's reopening in Las Vegas. I guess that will still happen though. |
