I watched a performance of his in New York - New York from '93 last night on TV. Very moving. You can't quite sum up how good it is to see an artist of his gigantic stature, smile like he did at the end of one of his deliveries, quite awesome, looking out at 100,000 people. Quite an extraordinary man, ther goes another one off, like Elvis, like JFK, like Simone, like Lennon, Gaye...RIP mate |

Good one, Spence - well put and I'm glad you mentioned that. The guy absolutely had one of the sweetest voices of all time and it was always moving, watching and hearing him sing. I loved how he would raise both his arms in that theatrical and stirring way after he finished a song, as though he was saying "give it up people. Bask in my glory and together let us enjoy life and eat lots of pasta and drink much red wine." |
