How is apec effecting all you Sydneysiders? Are you going to join the protest on Saturday or keep a wide berth like myself? You know Dubya's henchmen are probably already onto this! Maybe we can get a few Go Betweens converts!!

APEC - I'm lovin it Geoff! Why? Because the roads are empty. I think half of Sydney has pissed off somewhere for the duration. I don't think I've ever had an easier drive to work than the last couple of days. Reminds me a bit of the 2000 Olympics when everyone got paranoid about the city getting overcrowded and half the population disappeared for a couple of weeks - leaving the rest of us to have a great big street party! Not that I'm planning any street parties for APEC - all those helicopters riding shot gun in the sky are a little offputting.

I was stuck for a half hour on the Harbour Bridge on Wednesday morning. The car lanes were empty but the bus lane was backed up for several kilometres. The day before though I got a bus uptown (Central to Town Hall) at lunchtime and it took about two minutes!

Today I'm enjoying catching up with my Go-Betweens surfing on the APEC day off!

I have a little question. Isn't the security arrangement for this confab just a teensy weensy bit over the top? Has Howard overdone it? Does this look good to Aussies? To me it just looks weird.

Hey, he's up for re-election and the state government(Labor) didn't want to stuff up so that Howard could blame them and have something to winge about during the election campaign.
Over the top??
YOU BET!
The march on Saturday was peaceful until just when it dispersed when the police targetted the event organisers!
I didn't go because of the fear that all of the fruit loops would wreck it again as they did in Melbourne by throwing marbles under the horses - really nasty stuff!!
However, the police were WAY over the top this time!
I only wish the Chaser boys had got their "Osama" to walk in the lobby of Dubya hotel!!

Even if the real Osama was in the lobby of Dubya hotel 10 feet away from Dubya, Dubya still wouldn't be able to find him. Has there ever been a more feeble minded head of state? I seriously doubt it. Add into it his stubborness, his lies, his lack of insight, his belief he can do no wrong, his total lack of empathy, his belief that God has his back no matter what decision he makes, his lack of diplomatic skill set and you have ever element that I deplore in a politician.

randy, i read an article yesterday about the toll this has already (and will subsequently take) on sydney's tourism industry. some of them are absolutely fuming. i mean they have it hard enough as it is, having to compete with melbourne and all. leave alone having it transformed into a corporate police state overnight. i love you sydders anyway.
