Does anyone know if the JJJ Go-Betweens tribute show at Tivoli was filmed. I know it was recorded for JJJ but is it going to be released as a CD or DVD? A very memorable night!!

Great news, still blown away by the performances that night, notably Sarah Blasko's Bye Bye Pride.

i wholeheartedly agree david - i thought sarah's bye bye pride was exquisite. i've never cared for her much...nor the song really (even though tallulah is probably my most listened to go-b's record), but it's got me to give both another go.

with my birthday being on may 24th i always wanted to like it more...

Here is how the concert is described in The Age:
JTV Live: The Go-Betweens Tribute

ABC, 11pm

The death in May last year of Grant McLennan, co-founder of the iconic Australian post-punk band, prompted this tribute show, filmed appropriately enough on the band's old stomping ground at Brisbane's Tivoli Theatre. David McCormack (ex-Custard) and Go-Betweens band members Adele Pickvance and Glenn Thompson form the house band that accompanies singers such as Dan Kelly, Sarah Blasko and Glenn Richards (Augie March). An intense Triple J musical director Richard Kingsmill acts interlocutor as the artists come off stage, discussing song choices and helming a potted history of the band told through old footage and video clips. It's an unassuming concert, featuring faithful song adaptations played to an appreciative crowd, but the biggest accolade comes with the appearance of the other Go-Betweens anchor, the debonair Robert Forster, who commends the "big, bold decisions" of the song choices in sticking not only to the hits - and yes, Streets of Your Town makes an appearance - but also mining obscurities from the band's extensive back-catalogue.

Loved the show (recorded it off ABC2).
I probably would have preferred more music and less chatter (except from Robert - who was so magnanimous and shone so brightly).
I enjoyed the way they linked the archival G-B's videos to the concert, and while the covers were commendable it was really apparent (to me) that it's a big ask to improve on the originals.
Sarah Blasko's voice was magnificent and I particularly enjoyed the guitar playing.

i know...i can't stand blasko's songs (from the very little i've heard....i shouldn't be so quick to judge), but that's an amazing voice she's got there. gave a whole new feel to an already breathtaking song.

Watched a DVD of this last night (thanks Laurent from Paris!) and it was surprisingly good. I say that in the sense that I feel the G-Bs music tends to be so much tied to them as personalities and that cover versions are therefore very difficult.

And yes, Sarah Blasko's contributions were excellent. Not a technically great voice perhaps, but she got right inside the emotion of 'Bye Bye Pride'. An unusual choice in 'Hold Your Horses' (featuring ukelele), but one that worked.

Who was the tall guitarist with the white telecaster and the sideburns? I liked his 'lean' style.

And Kevin Mitchell? Appearance wise, the Australian Beck?!

The tall guitarist with white tele was/is (I'm pretty sure)Dave McCormack's brother - Dylan, though I'm finding it difficult to get any info from the web to confirm this. The tribute concert is real guitar heaven with as many as four guitarists playing at once! "Right Here" by Darren Hanlon has fantastic interplay between the two lead guitars of Dylan McC and Ian Haug, as does "The House that Jack Kerouac Built". "Bye Bye Pride" is another example of great twin lead guitar heroics; Sarah Blasko's interpretation is interesting: slower than the original and perhaps slightly more dramatic.

Can anyone shed light on the reason why Lindy and Amanda are completely absent from the JJJ Tribute Concert at The Tivoli that was on TV a while ago? Why didn't they appear on stage or as talking heads, except in old clips? Are there unresolved issues still lurking after all these years?
