Anyone know about I Heart Hiroshima? They get Robert's endorsement, apparently. Today's Daily Telegraph says the following: KATHY MCCABE. The Daily Telegraph. Surry Hills, N.S.W.: Sep 13, 2007. p. 13 I Heart Hiroshima's Matt Somers is the first musician to admit that there is absolutely no possible way to look cool playing a guitar after the strap has broken. And even though their debut album is called Tuff Teef, the frontman refused to test out his own choppers after his instrument malfunction at a recent launch gig. "There's nothing you can do when the strap breaks except throw your guitar on the ground," he laughs. "And the songs are too fast to play with my teeth; I would grind them away." The Brisbane trio have quickly become indie faves, thanks to the brattish guitar pop anthem Punk and have earned praise from Mr Go Betweens himself, Robert Forster, who has declared them the best thing out of Brisvegas for years. They launch the album at the Hopetoun Hotel tonight. |

The only thing I know about them Austin is that a work colleague wanted me to go see them tonight; but I was going to a football match. (Sydney lost 2-1 to Wellington btw) |

As you probably know Robert is playing at the opening of the Warhol exhibition at GOMA in Brisbane. He's doing a set of Velvet covers. For it he's hand picked a band of Brisbane luminaries. He's got Susie (vocalist/drummer from IHH) to play drums. I ran into her the other day and she was really excited, though a little concerned that Bobby picked her because he thinks she looks like Moe Tucker. They are a great band, record is best Brisbane release for ages, though was surprised that Robert thought so as its not what you would expect he'd really dig. |

I'd love to see Robert do a set or an album of VU covers. If he was going to do a whole albums worth, I would vote for VU's eponymus third album from 1969. |
