hello everybody, we apologize it's taken us this long to announce the release of the grant mclennan tribute record, but here we are better late than never... We are not by any means a professional record company rather just two major fans of the go-betweens since the time "apology accepted" was recorded on a compilation tape received back in 1985. this is our tribute to a songwriter that means more to us than any other. it's called Love Goes On. and you can check out some of the amazing versions of Grant's songs on our myspace page. thanks to all of the artists that contributed, it's turned out beautifully. and thanks also to a few of the members of this page, for contributing photos to the booklet. we just posted a blog that contains some initial reviews of the tribute CD. despite a marketing budget of about $600.00 the word seems to be spreading... thanks to all!! |

That track didn't happen for some reason Geoff. But there are some great versions on it. |

The sudden loss of Grant seemed to stun fans worldwide and opened a chasm of sorrow that still resonates with those that were lucky enough to appreciate him while he still roamed the planet. I bought this tribute cd last month and just want to share how I feel: it makes me feel closer to grant - I knew his songs thru the years and he got me past some of the hardest moments of my life. I have never posted here, although i've been reading the comments and tributes since his passing. I now feel comfortable here, like I know most of you thru your comments. thank you for making me feel part of a community I knew should exist but never imagined. The go-betweens were unique in ways I have a hard time describing to others. You just know when you hear the song start, and when it finishes - it's a go-betweens song! Now I know others feel the same resonance that I do. thank you grant and robert! for those that haven't found the link to the page for Rare Victory, it's here. www.myspace.com/rarevictory the cd comes with a booklet with photos of grant I've never seen. it's a beautiful package. The self appointed Board (bored and boring) Moderator speaks again. I predict that in time others will bore of your egocentric hack journalism, if they haven't already. This is a The Go-Betweens Message Board. I believe there's also a place called My Space where you can talk about yourself, act as moderator etc. I doubt you'd draw much of a crowd though. |

Hi Geoff; Steve recorded a version of "The Wrong Road" for our tribute and sent it to us. It's a very moving take, and we were looking forward to including it. Steve was also looking forward to it, however it didn't happen due to forces beyond our control. It would have fit in seamlessly. Two others that were close to making the cut but could not due to scheduling conflicts: Teenage Fanclub and David Kilgour. |

Hi Geoff; Well, it was a decision made by his management, (his brother) & as mundane as that sounds that's what came between Steve Kilbey and "Love Goes On". Luckily, Future Pilot AKA quickly filled the spot we had reserved for Steve. Sushil Dade & Duglas (of BMX BANDITS) turned in an outstadning version of "Dusty In Here" with production assistance from Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub. That track made the cut just 6 days before our mastering deadline!! Very serendipitous... |
