Hello to all who read this...

I have only just discovered this site, and feel it now.. fitting to share with the world the one time i have met with the great Grant Mclennan!

I remember vividly, i had just finished doing some busking in Parramatta, Sydney. And was quite down about it cause i hadnt made much on the day. along the way back home i come across a guy who had wanted me to tag with him to a jam session at one of the local pubs in Balmain.

It was here that i would meet the person that would influence my direction in music.

I remember clearly that i got up on stage, and sang my version of Proud mary. wasnt really crash hot back then, but that's not the point...
i remember going back to my seat up the back end of the bar and being approached by a guy that had a receding hairline and seemed to me like someone who had a infinite amount of knowledge.

He sat beside me and said "mate you wernt too bad up there - but i wouldnt mind giving you a few pointers if that's ok?"
"Yeah! thats fine" i remember replying, still a little weary of this person i didnt know from a bar of soap

"Allow me to introduce myself, im Grant"
"Stan's my name - pleaure to meet you!"
he made a small wisecrack about how my full name was exactly the same as a famous jazz bass player. We had a giggle and ended up talking for 3 hours about inspiration and improving my performance ability.

"Mate, remember what i said.. i can really see you going places! just gotta not be so stiff up there, loosen up and you'll be fine"

I had a guy who ran up to me straight after grant left the bar and was talking real excited and fast.."You know who you were just talking to?!?!"
"Actually i thought i saw his face before but im not sure..
"Mate... that was Grant Mclennan from the go-betweens you idiot!"

My jaw just dropped, i got free advice from one of the greatest musicians of our time, and when i heard that he died.. all i could do was remember those final words he said to me with a smile as he walked away with his washburn in his case.

Im glad i could share this with the world..

Thankyou very much for the welcome..

I felt that after all this time it was right to share with the world my event with him. I even searched high and low to buy a guitar similar to his.

would be interesting to hear from others, or even to maybe form a "tribute" band - anyone interested please reply

Being honest, i believe it did..

it sticks with me, along with the other professional advice i've had from other celebs that i have run into..(Adam harvey, Rick price, etc.) but i have to say that his was definetly the most genuine!!

So to answer your question in short Mr. McEwan - Yes! in more ways than one

you know, im reading other peoples posts in other areas of this site and think to myself... "grant was definetly a legend in his own right!"

the problem is that i am not able to keep as much of a close pulse on the remainder of the band due to commitments.. so i just wanted to say to the moderators - thanks guys, it makes my life a little bit easier.. lol
