I gotta go with "Tracks of My Tears." Gets me every time. Every track on "Going to a Go-Go" is pretty great, though.

"Tears of a clown". Obvious I know but what a GREAT intro! Nearly makes me want to use it for my phone!

Trax of My Tears is a great one. Dolly Parton does a great version of it on her new record.

Favorite newish Smokey song: Being With You

I might steal your idea for a ringtone Geoff. Chances are we'l lnvever be in the same room to get confused by it.

You Really Got a Hold on Me is edging up on my other Miracles selection..."I don't like you but I love you" is a lyric that's inspired thousands of similarly-themed songs...

I ain't a big one for covering things that are hard to improve on, mainly Smokeys' stuff, but man the Beatles sure did a great version of that one.

And I completely relate to the words you say frome it, Mr. Allen. Been there did that as they say.

My Girl - The Temptations. Written and produced by Smokey. Their first number 1 and still a classic!

And I've always liked The Beat's version of 'Tears of a Clown'.

All of that...plus, by all reports I've read he's a genuinely decent guy...a rarity in his business.

"No one can quite sing like Smokey, Smokey Robinson". Tom Tom Club - Genius Of Love

"When Smokey sings - I hear violins."
"When Smokey sings - I forget everything."
ABC - When Smokey Sings.

I think that just about covers it in regards to who was the best to come out of Motown. As much as I liked Marvin, The Four Tops, Supremes, etc, Smokey was the best singer.

As for my favorites:
Old Smoke - "Tracks of My Tears."
New Smoke - "Cruisin'"

Hard to imagine though how great Otis Redding would have become had he not died so young.

Well played, Mr. Michael.

When it comes to singin, Smokey takes that checkered flag Robert is always talkin about.

He's also a pretty dam good poet.
