John Peel died last last night...

First time I heard the Go-Betweens, "Draining the Pool For You" one night on BFBS back in my teenage years.
Thnanks for that, and for so many others I may never have heard of it wasn't for you

It's very sad. I'd be a rich man (financially) if i'd saved the money I went on to spend on records he introduced me to. No-one else like him around.

I feel so saddened. He introduced me to so many great bands, I can't even remember them all, but the Go-Betweens and the Triffids, who rank as 2 of my all time favourites, for sure.

I remember listening to his weird eclectic mix of guitar music, reggae, electronica, African music and anything else he fancied, and picking out those odd amazing gems. Sitting there with my finger hovering on the record button of my tape machine whenever he played a session by someone I wanted. I still have some hissy old tapes of a Go-Betweens Peel session.

Really upset. The Go Betweens (Cattle and Cane), Joy Division, Smiths, Husker Du, Wedding Present, House Music so many that I heard the first time on John Peel - the same experience as so many others late night listening on a crap radio, recording stuff and listening again the next day.
Will be sadly missed - no Festive 50 this year.

What I'll miss most about John Peel is his humour, his love for all types of music and his complete lack of ego.
