That scene in Heat with Bobby D and Al Pachino was a goodun. They shoudla gotten an award for best acting duet. I read that in the Mission Jeremy Irons put old Bobby D to shame by how quickly he ran up that mountain. Deniro needed a truss and a wubbie by the time they were through! Much as I love Deniro that made me LOL laugh. | ||

Mean Streets is very good and since it was done by Mr. Scorcessi that makes it important - I read that in a book. Bang the drums I saw once on the lateshow but dint' like that much. It was a tearjerker and I dont like my tears getting jerked like that. | ||

Who's Robert De Niro ? ....King of Comedy gets my vote. Hey, just a thought. Can you imagine that somwhere in the world there is another family called De Niro and they may well have named their son Robert. Does yer head in doesn't it ! At my daughters school there was a lad named James Dean, whenever she mentioned his name I cracked out laughing. e.g "James Dean was chucked out of assembly this morning"..."James Dean has packed lunch as well",,,used to get me every time. Imagining this 7 year old kid mumbling to the teachers and being moody with a windcheater jacket etc... | ||

Remember when I went to the Deerhunter, it's the only film I've ever been to where the whole audience left the cinema in complete silence - no chat, no comments, no muttering, we just filed out as if under shock. Very strange. | ||

It happened to me when I saw In the Name of the Father (about Irish men wrongly imprisoned by the British in the 70s). I saw it in a cinema about five miles from the border with Northern Ireland. Nobody said a word throughout the film or while leaving the cinema. An incredible, and eerie, experience. | ||

Midnight Run - an underatted classic in my opinion. DeNiro's most successful comic role by a million miles. His double-act with Charles Grodin (much of it improvised apparently) is superb. The film transcends the mainstream buddy/road film genre due to the exceptional quality of the acting and the script. One of the standout scences is DeNiro's visit to his old house where he briefly reconnects with his ex-wife and daughter. Touching and bittersweet. Watching this movie again restores my faith in DeNiro after all the drossy comedies he's done over the last few years. | ||
