Sad news reaches Domino that one of the most influencial drummers of the modern age has passed away. Klaus Dinger of Neu!, La Duessledorf and a founder of Kraftwerk died suddenly on the 21st March. His signature lock-groove rhythms have influenced numerous artists through the years and in Brian Eno's words: "There were three great beats in the 70's. Fela Kuti's Afrobeat, James Brown's Funk and Klaus Dinger's Neu! beat" | ||

Vio con dios, Klaus Dinger! The Krautrock topic that was discussed back in 2004 on the G-B e-mail message list (that we never use anymore), prompted me to buy all three Neu! albums on cd. Neu! and Neu! 75 are must haves in my estimation, with the middle album Neu! 2 being somewhat of a lesser effort but still very decent. The second half of Neu! 75 is a real groundbreaker, beating the Sex Pistols, Wire, Sonic Youth and others to the punch by a couple of years and more. The first Neu! album was the big influence on Stereolab, as Jeff mentioned above. | ||
