Good call, Spence. HOL are a band I've only discovered recently - and are a great addition to my listening. Girl With the Loneliest Eyes is a great song. Though my song of the day is "Hell of a Summer" by The Triffids. I'm trying to listen to them more, though always preferred the GBs. Saw The Triffids live at the Paddington RSL in Sydney in 1988 - not a great gig, as I remember it, though boasted an entertaining cover of Madonna's "Into the Groove". |

Jeff The wife's got a silver disc of Flat Earth that she found in a broken presentation frame in a skip in London! Tom must've got fed up with all the attention! Simon glad you like HOL. My mate Baz, who's a big Church fan, always slagged me as he used to say they were one big fat Church rip off. I can see that, I buy that! |

Momus - The day the circus came to town. The more accessible face of Momus was his eary acoustic based leanings, this comes from Cicrus maximus and its lyrics are based upon a conversation he had with a friend of mine. What's interesting on this track is, that some of the sounds, that were played on Emulator by Momus collaborater Neil Martin, remind me of the David Dundas soundtrack for Withnail and I, the pipe organ in particular, and I think boh albums would have been recorded around 85'86. Christ knows what I am on about here, but uyou know, have keyboard will waffle... |

You're listening to a lot of cool stuff, there Spence. My song of the day is "You're My Kind of Climate" by Rip, Rig, & Panic. and maybe also Nick Drake's "Thoughts of Mary Jane." |

Softly to Me - Love Although Love's debut is kinda patchy and unfocused, this Brian MacLean contribution is stunningly beautiful, hinting at the direction they'd pursue heavily on the next few directions. The chord changes in this send chills up my spine. |

Really diggin on some classic mythic Amerikana of the Texas variety, namely "Desperadoes Waiting Fer a Train" by Guy Clark and Willy and Merle's version of "Pancho and Lefty", a song that never fails to capture my breath. "All the federales say, they coulda had him anyday, they just let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose". |

I'm always late. You know that - accept it. Spence, the first time I heard Never on the radio I was SURE that it was a new Church song. Steven and co were always that little bit more psychedelic than the House of Love. The first HOL album's a corker though and Fisherman's Tale is probably my pick. Protection - Massive Attack |
