I had always assumed that Sean O'Hagan of Microdisney and The High Llamas is the same Sean O'Hagan who writes so eloquently about music for The Observer. But recently I saw something online saying they are different people. It is the only time I have ever seen any suggestion they are two people. Does anyone know what is the truth here? Jeff? |

Padraig, that's a good question, and I have no idea. I have read that O'Hagan the musician keeps very busy with an assortment of music-related projects, so I wonder if he'd have time. And, although O'Hagan is definitely a smart, articulate guy, I'm not sure I can picture him writing for the Guardian. On the other hand, he does have a family to feed, so maybe, like Robert Forster, he's picked up another source of income? |

I'm pretty confident they are different people. O'Hagan also wrote for NME amongst other publications |

They've always looked quite different in photographs. |

Sean O'Hagan is a musicians' musician. I used to think that amounted to a vow of poverty but I don't think that's necessarily the case. I've changed my mind. Love is all you need! |

I've never seen a photo of the jounalist O'Hagan. The fact that he used to write for NME used to make me think all the more it was the same guy - Cathal O'Coughlan also used to write for the NME. I had also assumed he wrote for newspapers, as Jeff said above, because he needed the money! If they are two different people I can't believe The Observer has not gotten Sean O'Hagan to interview Sean O'Hagan. It's a no-brainer! |

Oh, I used to know a guy who interviewed the musician Sean O'Hagan. He said he is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. This fella was also present in a bar in Cork when Sean and Cathal met for the first time in about 10 years. It was a bar in an arts centre, so everyone in there knew who both people were. Sean was at the bar. Cathal, unexpectedly, walked in. It was like a scene in a cowboy movie. Everyone stopped talking. Sean got up from his seat. He and Cathal embraced and then drank the night away. |

They are two entirely different Sean O'Hagans, Padraig. I think it's a source of mild annoyance to both men that they are confused so regularly. I suppose it's a slightly cooler version of the confusion surrounding Nick Kelly of Hot Press fame and his namesake from The Fat Lady Sings. |

I know both Nick Kelly's well. The Fat Lady Sings version lectured me in law in college! The other Nick should now be referred to as Nick Kelly of the Irish Independent I think! |
