This is just an opportunity for me to wax lyrical about one of the best instores I've been to for a while, earlier this evening at Pure Groove in Farringdon, London. Though his right hand seems to be permanently clenched and he has to walk with a stick, Edwyn Collins just thrilled us. It was so good to see him back on his feet and in reasonably fine voice (and it was also my very first time seeing him despite my being an Orange Juice fan almost from the very start). For a few of my pix and more details of the set, see here: http://tinyurl.com/3s63fb (Clicking on some images will show higher-res versions.) Richard |

looking on the pictures made me a bit sad, but to know he is on the road again makes me also happy.... roddy frame: just remember a picture of him at the time of high land, hard rain more than twenty years ago. and this is how i have him in mind. to see him now on this picture is kind of strange. |

Well, Roddy has of course done a lot since the Aztec Camera days, so to have in mind an image of him from that time is a bit antiquated, if that's the right word. I've only seen Roddy in the flesh once before, a few years ago at a solo show when I was right at the back and didn't have a clear view, but when I saw him yesterday I instantly knew who he was. And is it so strange to have Roddy and Edwyn together? It's Postcard all over again of course (and lest we forget, the Go-Betweens were briefly a Postcard band despite not being Scottish). It's great that Roddy is supporting Edwyn's rehabilitation in this way. I was also pleased that Roddy covered "The Wrong Road" on the tour that he was doing when Grant's death was announced. As for Edwyn, well I remember being especially moved by his short tribute to Grant on this forum, which seemed so poignant given his own difficulties. You can still read it here of course, in the first batch of tributes. Richard |

Richard, thanks so much for the nice photos and brief report. It really is cool to see Edwyn and Roddy together, even if the circumstances are a bit sad. It's nice to know they still have a connection after all these years. |

Edwyn and Roddy have played a lot together over the years, mainly in the form of an acoustic duo. Many years ago there was a whole series of evenings during the Edinburgh fringe in Marco's leisure centre, when Malcolm Ross turned up to play as well. Not sure what recordings exists of Edywn + Roddy together, but certainly 'Consolation Prize' (live at Barrowlands) is on the CD single 'Good Morning Britain' (see http://dustonthestylus.blogspot.com/2008 /05/roddy-frame-edwyn-collins-consolatio n.html) And Roddy played a large part in Edwyn's excellent 'Hope and Despair' record. |
